I'm being treated for Lyme and have been since the end of July.

Started with the doxy. Three months.

Had a month on the PICC IV. Followed by another month of abx.

Was off for just about a month. Felt like my old self for two weeks, even putting on make up and fixing my hair.

Started getting everything all over again. The whole complete list of symptoms.

My eyes are really bad this time around. The Dr. said to wait until I'm done with my treatment before getting them checked.

Is that the best course? Just wait it out.

Just wanted to see what you all thought.

just wondering how your eyes are being affected--is it your actual vision, or do you have burning, redness, stinging, etc.?

if it's your vision, i would not wait to have an MD ophthalmologist check you out. i have had both visual changes (flashes in vision, wavy lines, tons of floaters) and a lot of pain & redness. my neuro-ophthalmologist is actually an LLMD and saw mild vasculitis in my retinal arteries. i'm on aspirin & ginkgo to help improve circulation.

anyway, that's just my $.02. when it comes to your vision, you don't want to wait for something bad to happen.

Yes- I would not wait to get your eyes checked- especially if you are on on antibiotic that could affect your eyes (plaquenil is the one I know).

If the ophthalmologist finds nothing wrong, you're good to go.

I get a ton of floaters/specks and seeing movement in the corner of my eyes. I got my eyes checked when I first got diagnosed, and the only thing they noticed was maybe mild astigmatism (which went away with treatment).

So, if the floaters and stuff I have had returns at the same level or a lower level than I had before, I do ignore it. But anything new or worse I get checked out

I have everything you mentioned.

Blurry vision, red, puffy, scratchy and dry.

The two weeks that I was feeling like my "old" self even my eyes were better. They were still puffy and red but that was all.

I could even read the road signs at a distance. But not now.

When the other symptoms came back so did the eye problems.

It's also worse when I'm tired. Like now.

I will have to find someone to go see about it I guess.

Just tired of Drs, abx and all that goes hand in hand with lyme.

But I guess you all know how I feel.

Yeah- sometimes symptoms come back as part of a herx (from change of medication, change of diet etc.), or as part of Lyme's monthly cycle, or as part of YOUR monthly cycle if you are a woman, or because of the co-infections cycle. Or just do it because they want to mess with you.

I might be tempted to check the blurry vision just in case. But if it is coming back along with all the other symptoms, it is probably just a Lyme thing.

And everything is worse when you are tired- which is awesome, because Lyme patients are tired ALL THE TIME

Also- I understand being tired! But don't give up! I gave up 6 months ago and quit antibiotics and doctors, but then had to un-give up because I had back-slid so much. Now I have 6 months to catch up on, plus re-starting with an LLMD.

My eyes go blurry a lot. Before I knew I had Lyme I thought something was up with my vision because it felt "off". Things would go in and out of focus and bright lights really bothered me. I had my eyes check and they were perfect.

Then I discovered it was Lyme ;) I find that if I focus my eyes too hard on something for several hours the eye symptoms pop up so I try to give them a break. Some days it's fine, some days it doesn't take much to set them off and give me a headache. The point is I have perfect vision, but Lyme is in my eyes

Blurry vision equals neurotoxin overload. Detox! Cholestyramine really helps with it...prevents the continual recirculation of them. It grabs them in the GI tract before reabsorption.

I'm sorry to hear your eyes are acting up! That can certainly be scary! It's a tough call - I went to the eye doctor a while back because all of a sudden my entire field of vision (especially the left eye) was filled with floaters, and I was seeing flashes of light, and a quick internet search told me to see a doctor immediately to rule out a visceral tear. I was fine - but at least it took the worry away.

I have noticed that my vision gets worse the less I detox - and given the amount of time you've spent on antibiotics, there's a good chance you've got quite a toxin load to deal with. I know it's frustrating - I started my 2nd round of treatment a few months before you, and some days I'm at the end of my rope - so tired of dealing with all of this, etc. Just hang in there. Hopefully you'll get some relief soon and remember why this is all worth it.

Thank you everyone.

I think that when I stopped the abx and felt good for those couple week I hoped to have the bulk of this behind me.

When everything can back just as bad as before and I started abx again I was depressed. Or should I say more depressed. lol

I miss who I use to be and how much fun I was. I just don't have the energy to be that person. I try but I'm not the same.

I have never stopped the herx baths. I always feel better after a nice soak.

Had the same problems with the eyes...still having them actually :) during my first abx course everything got worse and I thought I will go blind gradually. Thanks to all the replies I got here I understood that I was not detoxing enough and tried not to panick as much when having my 'eye crisis'. Tomorrow I have an appointment with my LLMD, hopefully he will give me more details on how to detox my body during the next two weeks when I will be off abx.
Don't give up...hang in there as much as you can and read more about detox. The advice I found here was pretty good for me.
