So I don't get "sick" anymore with colds/flus. I can't tell if it's a good thing or a bad thing. The last time I was sick was October 2010. Literally have not been sick for over a year. Before Lyme I would get sick once or twice per year like clockwork. Just seems weird to me. Anyone else?

Same here! Everyone in my family has this nasty bug right now and I'm the only one who doesn't have it (I'm not complaining!). I've noticed this for a while, even before starting my Lyme treatment - every time a bug would go around I would be the only one who never got it (while I watched my poor coworkers get the same bug over and over!).
My interpretation (based on nothing but opinion) is that our immune systems become so hypersensitive since they're used to fighting an infection 24/7 that the second they recognize a foreign invader they're already primed to attack!
Also, being on 3 antibiotics all the time I'm pretty sure I'm fighting plenty of things before I even realize I've come in contact with them.

I'm completely the opposite! I catch everything and get violently ill! To be fair, I haven't started abx (except a month of doxi 5 years ago when diagnosed and told I'd be cured w/that treatment) :(
Anyhow when I start treatment hopefully I'll get sick less often because this past year was awful!

Maybe we just don't notice because feeling sick stopped being out of the ordinary a long time ago? It usually takes me until after the fact to realize I've had a cold - I get so wrapped up in Lyme and everything else that I forget colds and flus are even an option!

I also noticed that I haven't had cold or virus since being in treatment. I attributed the antibiotics for that. But I've been off now for a few weeks and so far so good. Very strange I know.

I too have had very few viruses - but I did get a lot of bronchial infections when I was a smoker. Abx won't do anything for viruses, but the support that our bodies get from the abx (natural or pharmaceutical) may have something to do with not getting more viruses.
For me, I know that my doc has been working on healing my immune system so I credit that for this year of not getting the flu - and I'm very careful to avoid those that seem to be ill!! But that sure doesn't explain all of those years I wasn't in treatment of any kind and I didn't get colds and flues.
I think what Borderlyme said is quite possible though - we just don't realized when we have a cold or milder flu anymore because we are used to feeling "fluey" every time we herx a bit.

Just wanted to let you all know. My hubby just got back from a docs appr for flu like symptoms. The dic said its a virus and it's going around. In their conversation he did say something that may provide insight to this thread. The dic said viruses are stingy. They dont like to have more then one in a body at a time. He said its rare but can happen. Maybe some of the viral components we have with Lyme are what is saving us from catching colds and flus. The doc said that he's been working on research (my hubby's doc is at a university) for a vaccine that would populate people with a very short term, low virus to keep higher risk individuals like doctors in hospitals from catching the really bad stuff. Just thought I'd pass this on!

Well, I also work with children so.... But I'm not on abx so it could be that.

Hmmm. I get sick way less often. I think it is because my immune system just doesn't have the energy to fight the colds, so I just get what feels like regular lyme symptoms (mostly fatigue)
Or I have a super immune system??? But that just seems kind of ridiculous, considering I've had Lyme for over 4.5 years now. You'd think if my immune system were THAT good I'd be healthy

Very interesting concept, justascarf, thanks for sharing!
Personally, if other viruses are going to be picky and decide my body's not good enough for them, I'm fine with that!

I was told by one of my doctors."you're too sick to get sick the way others are around you" " and you live in this completely totally fatigued state that
is all flu like every day.
We titrate our expectation level down as to just how much energy we have to have to do anything and run things out on 3 cylinders while others are on 6 cylinders but really now if you look around..other than in action movies or
at the gym the average people are getting very slowed down.
Just to see all the type two diabetes is pretty disturbing.

Yeah but I feel fluish daily and fatigued but I also get repeated throat infections over and over as well as chest infections. I can tell the difference because I am hacking up horrible stuff and my throat is on fire.

For me, I am sure that my regular flu feelings are dute to lyme (or other chronic stuff), wheter people around me are sick or not never seems to have an effect on me.
