Flu-like body aches -- all of the time

Hi all,

I'm in my third year of Lyme treatment, and the one symptom that won't go away is the flu-like aches and fever. That's the symptom I first started with, and I get it to leave me alone! (Have had many of the other symptoms in between, but they appear to be cyclical) Nothing I have tried helps with the aches and I'm tired of feeling like I always have the flu. Has anyone tried any kind of medicine that's helped?

I take regular detox baths, etc. and I have tried everything OTC, plus Lyrica, Cymbalta, arthritis drugs, and even codeine (which actually helps, but that's not a long-term solution).

Thanks for any suggestions.

I am not an expert. Just someone living thru this crap too. I may suggest that you may not be treating a coinfection and therefore those symptoms linger. What meds are you taking? Too, if you've been on meds a long time it may be a yeast issue.

1- were you every checked for other illness?

2- Is your diet clean?

3- Do you know anything about systemic candida?

4- how old are you?

peacesoul, here are the answers to the questions you asked.

1- were you every checked for other illness? yes, been treated for bartonella and checked for everything else

2- Is your diet clean? it's good -- not perfect (not sure what you mean)

3- Do you know anything about systemic candida? yes, I've been treated for that, too

4- how old are you? 41

Like to take this up again, "need some zs", how have you been since you posted here (It's been some time I agree), and also others, do you have any comments on this. Have you experienced similar problems and constraints?

With me it's the same, although I am on ABX for almost a year now. Lyme symptoms ("bubbling tissues", sharp pain in fingers and toes, tingling eye lids and muscels) have fanished but are reoccuring, mostly when I feel "fluish". It seems that over the time, this doesn't change. I have already changed the abx in the course of my treatment. Have to say that this awful flu feeling was to me the most severe symptom. Before I started treatment, it occured every 3-5 weeks. Since I am on ABX, it is way more frequent.

The flu symptoms just make me mad. Fatigue and this weird overall feeling of being sick. Sometimes combined with mild sore throat and a leaky nose.

Opinions are welcome. Especially welcome are comments by people who have suffered from these symptoms and managed to got rid of them ;).

So sorry you are feeling so crappy. This is a very important issue which is missed by a lot of us suffering I think. Have you had your Vitamin D checked? There are numerous recent studies linking low vitamin D to pain. I suffer with getting mine up to normal levels. Check it out and maybe ask your doctor to have it checked for you. It could make a big big difference.

Yes that is an old post, but a timeless issue!

I think a lot of patients find that the first symptom to show up is the last one to go.

If you cannot step up your detox regimen, are you able to start an exercise program? I found that helped me get moving on stubborn symptoms. Even the gentlest movement can help.

There are a lot of maladies that cause flu-like symptoms, I hope your doctor has ruled out everything else.

Thanks guys for your replies. My vitamin D is low also and I am substituting, although haven't got it checked in a time. I am doing exercise, well playing football twice a week for 90 minutes. I am walking everyday or taking the bycicyle.

Btw may sound scilly but can I write a personal message to "need some zs"? I couldn't figure it out. Or does anyone know what finally turned out to be his/her major issue (BB, Bartonella)?

This flu-feeling really drives me crazy. You can't plan anything like trips because you never know when it will hit you again. You also don't know how sever it may turn out this time.

I understand that it is the immune system that is active and that it may also be a good indicator, but I really feel I have to know whether I am on the right track, and how long this will last (10 years sick plus almost a year in treatment now). Well, I guess nobody can tell me :)

Fellow Lymies, let me first say that I dont blog or belong to any forums except this one and its my first so excuse me if i ramble or whatever.

I, too, have Flu-like fevers and body/bone aches and pains including headache, soles of feet so sore that i cant walk b/c my feet stay flexed and horrible headaches like never before. strange.
I've not detoxed, ever. Got C diff b/c of iv rocephin and not detoxing. long story. Anyway, this only went away for a few months with the exception of my foot problems and nerve pain. I take levaquin and flagyl, anti-fungals, probiotics, b-12 and other nutrient injections weekly and was previously on iv abx for over a yr as mentioned above. recently thought i was in remission for a few months b/c, like i said, most of my symptoms left me. They came back just as sudden in the form of headaches a few weeks ago and has evolved into full blown Lyme symptoms and pain just like before i had any treatment.
IDK, just noticed that some of you were dealing with some of the same stuff. Not even sure if you're still here, but I'd love to know if you're doing any better or if you found out any information that was helpful that might also be helpful to a fellow Lymie.

@ Kern -- Unfortunately, "need some z's" doesn't have their email option enabled and they haven't been around for some time. Maybe they will wander by in time. Usually it is a good sign for people to leave the forum, when they are all better they just don't have time for this! Let's hope for that.
Sorry to hear that you are still getting flu-like symptoms. Does your doctor have a theory?

@ Undermyskin, Welcome to the forum! Hey, don't worry about rambling -- that's why we're here!
So you are having symptoms while you are on levaquin and flagyl -- could be you just busted open a biofilm and released a bunch of bacteria into your system. I just went through the same thing recently. Hope you get through this quickly.

Agree with achievinggrace. The muscle aches are my most prevalent symptom and the only thing that really helps is exercise or sometimes a cup of ginger tea. I also have Celiac Disease and when I've been glutened I also get the severe flu-y muscle aches, the only difference is that they're definitely not made any better by exercise when it's a glutening (have NO idea why that is..).

So the flu-like symptoms have just started the past 48 hours. Just when I was feeling pretty good! Not sure what's triggered them, probably doing too much (which really isn't a lot). Anyway, my 'regular' symptoms are all in my head and this is really the first time I've felt really lousy for an extended period of time with flu-like symptoms. Body aches, chills, slight fever last night, can't get comfortable in bed, headache, serious brain fog, and just overall feeling lethargic. Oh yeah, and I have this rash again on my left buttocks. The strangest thing. My acupuncturist said it probably comes when my body's in a weakened state. Makes sense. My LLMD didn't seem too concerned about it but it has come and gone now two times.

This is probably the worst I've felt this year. I'm on both Tindamax and Biactrim so I'm assuming this is just a massive herx trying to kill the pesky buggers off.

I went to my acupuncturist appointment this morning and felt a little better after, but not for long.

Holy cow I'm literally bedridden now. Absolutely no energy, no appetite fever at 102 now. This is awful. Looks like the Tindamax and Bactrim are finally doing what they're supposed to do. I wonder if I should continue the abx. Maybe go off of them for a day.

Probably should call my LLMD. Why does this aleays happen on the weekend?
