My dad has Lyme and Babesia. He took 400 mg a day of Doxycycline for 5 weeks, then switched to 3000mg of Amoxicillin a day plus 250 mg a day of azythromycin-- he's now on week 3 of this regime. His biggest symptom now and prior to starting antibiotics is burning neuropathy in his feet and lower legs. While his other Lyme symptoms have greatly dissapated, the neuropathy has gotten much much worse. I don't know whether the worsening is a major herx or not. Has anyone had this happen? And more importantly, has anyone had their neuropathy that was caused by Lyme, actually go away or are these nerves potentially damaged forever?
The current plan is to keep my dad on amoxicillin and azythromycin for another 4 to 6 weeks and then add Mepron in a few weeks to kill the Babesia and then after that do a month's round of Flagyl and Biaxin as cyst busters and then see where things stand. But I don't think my dad will be able to stay the course if I can't reassure him that there's a good chance the neuropathy will subside. He is freaking out with the intensity of the pain.
I just sent him a good B complex to take with folic acid in it, D3, Magnesium, NACysteine and Lipoic Acid-- I know he should be taking a bunch more suppliments, but he'll never do it--he's already overwhelmed with the pro biotics.
So please, if anyone has had their neuropathy go away, let me know-- and what did you take that helped?
Thanks!
As a side note, my husband who has Lyme and Babesia and Brucella with mainly neuro symtoms, is now (after 5 months on IV) on week 10 of taking Bicillin injections 3 times a week, azythromycin plus Fludicortizone, Mepron and Bactrim and he has improved quite a bit finally. Long way to go yet, but progess is being made.
