I was wondering if anyone knew if Lyme would affect your lungs and your breathing.

Before being diagnosed with Lyme I saw a pulomologist and was diagnosed with

asthma. I do not use a inhaler but have recently been having a lot of trouble breathing


Also a couple months ago I had to stop wearing my contacts cause my left eye felt like

I was being stabbed in my eye. The pain has recently spread to my other eye. I went to

A couple eye doctors and specialists and they said my eye is fine. Someone else with

Lyme recently told me this is a sign of babesia. My Llmd however doesn't believe I have

Any confections. Just wondering your guys thought. Thanks

Hi Fugo ~ Lyme has affected my Lungs and 2 of my Doc's which 1 of them is a LLMD told me Lyme can affect your Lungs... I couldnt even walk up the stairs at home because I wouldnt be able to breathe when I got to the top so I had to like crawl up them very slowly... When I started getting treatment for Lyme I started on Zithro and Bactrium DS and within 3 weeks noticed a bog improvenment in my breathing .. I still have a ways to go but am slowly doing better .. I can walk up the stairs normally and just be a little out of breathe ... I have had Lyme for 4 years and didnt know it until Jan of this year..... Back in October of 2011 I couldnt breath and was coughing so hard I was throwing up so I ended u n the ER and they said I had Pnemunio.. Oddly enough they gave me Zithro and by the next day I was breathing better ... What I didnt know at that time was I had Lyme and Zithro was the key but they ER only gave me like 5 days worth so of course when I was done my breathing started getting worse all over again .. Its a very scarry feeling to not be able to get enough air into your lungs .... Have you tried Zithro or any ABX's ????????

I forgot this part .. I was treated for Bart and then Babesia.. I also have the Eye problem only mine is more of blurry vision all the time .....

I have been on clarithromycin and hydroxychloroquine for about 4 months now. I have been getting tested for Lyme for 5 months. At firsts dr gave my Amox cause I was allergic to the doxy

I was on hydroxychloroquine also after I did a round of Zithro and Bactrium DS ... Did you do Igenex test for Lyme ??????

Have you checked out the symptom chart I posted? It is really thorough and should answer your question about coinfections.

Never did igenex, I had a western blot test done and had 6? Bands come up. If you are interested in what ones I can find the paper an tell you

Iam not sure off the top of my head which 9 bands it is but I believe there are 9 bands that are specific to Lyme and from what I was told you can have just 1 of those bands be positive and have Lyme ....

Yeah my test was done through the mayo clinic and I was positive for Lyme I believe igg? Whatever one is the chronic

I get the stabbing eye pain on and off. I tested positive through Igenex.

Hydroxychloroquine (Plaquenil) is known to have an eye damage risk. Strong air hunger is associated with babesia while a milder form is sometimes attributed to bartonella. Your doctor won't diagnose clinically on co-infections? It's pretty unusual for someone to have pure Lyme disease and no co-infections. Are you seeing a LLMD?

Yeah he went through the training with the ilads. I'm going to try to find another Llmd this week for a second opinion

Babesia has caused me difficulty breathing and sometimes very scary. Maybe it is the Lyme, I don't know, but I found a lot of symptoms of Babs and air hunger and difficulty breathing were always listed.

I also had an extremely severe eye infection that lasted over a month. I saw the top cornea specialist iin our area, yet I do't think he ever figured out what was wrong -- I had to go to him almost every day, as it worsened every day. They changed my meds every other day. I felt like a guinea pig.

This Dr never had any great insight -- some of his treatments made it worse and were then immediately changed. I feel positive this had to do w/ Lyme, altho the Dr stated it was a virus, so it could have come from my CEBV or one of the other Herpes infections I have. Some days he said he was treating me as if it was Herpes and others he denied that.

The pain that comes and goes in my eyes now feels either that the infection is not completely cured and/or I now have glaucoma, which he is NOT treating.

To reiterate, difficulty breathing and air hunger has always been associated w/ Babs in everything I have read. Doesn't mean I'm not worng. Lyme kicks all our 'A's uniquely.

I went through a terrible time with respiratory problems. So my answer is yes, but I still do not know for sure what besides Lyme and proven Babesia (very late into it I got a positive DNA test) my body was fighting or trying to fight. I did have a respiratory illness prior to tick bite called Histoplasmosis...and it left scars on my lungs. It is more common than folks know. Airborne...carried by birds and tiny bats.
I was on 5 asthma meds. and had oxygen at home. As I look back on this time I think that once the immune system is thrown into imbalance it is quite a journey getting things back to normal. I just very gradually got better. It took me three years to wean off steroids for respiratory difficulties. I got addicted in the hospital when they were deemed necessary to save me. It is said by about everybody to avoid steroids with Lyme if you can. I am thankful to God that I have no respiratory problems now. Even my doctor can't really explain it...he knows how bad it once was. Long story short: Our bodies our capable of miraculous healing once they regain balance. How to regain that balance is why we share our stories.

Ok so I've been sick for 15 years. Last year they came to the conclusion it is Lyme disease. Since getting sick I've had a bad cough. 2 years ago I was given a TB (tuberculosis test) skin test that came back positive. It's a big mystery how I was ever exposed to TB. What I am thinking and no dr can give me a 100% answer to is if lyme bacteria can cause a positive Tb skin test. Knowing how the test works I can't see why it wouldn't. Has this happened to anyone else with lyme / chronic lyme?

Hello I see this is an old thread but I am curious as well about respiratory issues. I am currently awaiting igenex lab results for lyme and coinfections but have been increasingly concerned about my respiratory issues. I cough frequently, sometimes very hard and produce sputum and I have a very hard time breathing even doing simple tasks. My LLMD has pretty much said yeah any of those things could be related to Lyme or coninfections. I went to a pulmonologist who could not use my PFT results so she said I'll treat you for asthma so I have some inhalers. I've been avoiding taking them until I got more info from my LLMD as I know such medications are not good for Lyme patients. Also I have so many other symptoms that I thought if we could pin down the cause, that the respiratory problems could subside as well with the right treatment. Anyway, now I'm wondering if I should go on my inhalers.

Additionally I don't know if you are still reading this thread Kanz1 but I was flagged by my school as someone who should take a TB test because I had been to a certain foreign country for a short period of time. I took a screener questionnaire and they decided the test wasnt necessary. Now I'm wondering if I may in fact have TB (even in addition to Lyme etc.), and if I should be tested. I actually was still on Lyme antibiotics back in 2010 when I went to said foreign country so maybe my immune system was weak and I caught TB. I'm curious to see how your story turned out Kanz1 if you somehow check this post.
