Unfair as it seems, anything that can happen to us during the day can happen while we're sleeping, too! I've gotten random panic attacks in the middle of the night, maybe that's what you were experiencing? With lyme/co- infections, bodily-inuced panic attacks seem pretty common (as opposed to anxious thoughts triggering the physical sensations). Is there anything you can connect it to - any changes in medication or anything? Withdrawal from anything (I ended up getting sleep paralysis every time I'd skip an ambien, and had similar symptoms, which is why I ask).
If it's any consolation, I've never had horrible symptoms wake me up 2 nights in a row, so hopefully it was just a fluke? Make sure to keep notes on this though in case you need to talk to your doctor about it!
