Biaxin side effects????scared to take after reading about it

I was not on it long because of an unrelated liver issue, but I had no side effects from it. The only thing was some increased anxiety which I'm not positive was the med itself. I like biaxin. I've been pushing to get back on it as soon as my liver is okay I'm going to.

I was afraid to take everything too. I actually had a whole list of things I did NOT want to take that I told my LLMD at the first appointment LOL.

I was fortunate healthwise prior to lyme and I never had to take any medications before so this is scary for me.

I have recently become MUCH more comfortable with different meds and even added some of the ones I initially refused to take. For me, my symptoms are becoming more frightening than the med side effects. I want this to be somewhat under control and I'll do whatever it takes right now. As soon as I can get a handle and stabilize some of the worst symptoms and the signs of progression, I want to switch back to a natural protocol.

The only negative side effect I had was the metallic taste. I got used to it.

The positive side effect was that it helped give me my life back. Biaxin was the med that worked the best for me.

Zithromax (z-pac) did nothing for me.

The metallic taste started quickly, after the first or second pill. It really wasn't that big of a deal. It was annoying but easy to tolerate.

You can get sick from any med immediately or after months or years on it. It's hard to say. Many antibiotics are rough on the stomach so ask your pharmacist or doctor if you can take them with food.

Sometimes getting sick from the antibiotic shows that it is working. You aren't actually having a side effect of the med, you are "herxing." There is a lot of info here about that.

thank you for your support....I am now worried about other meds I take ,zoloft and klonopin..I told the dr. abouth them, but now i am reading there could be interactions. I also suffer from anxiety disorder which doesn't help the situation...I don't know any other meds that are milder...I have taken doxy with no side effects,ammoxiciiln with no effects.....I took my my second dose 20 minutes ago....It is like I am waiting for something to happen..every little thing I feel I freak out about ...hence why I am on anxirty meds as well. :) I really sound like a basket case reading my own post......haha....I know I need to take a deep breath, trust the dr. I had an anaphlyaxis reaction once and almost died, since them I am terrified of every med..I know I will not have that reaction with these meds, as I would have already...but I am most scared of the side effect of feeling out of control, not knowing what is going on..I know that feeling all too well and it scares me enough to stop the meds...sorry if i am going on I need to get a handle on all of this.

I really feel bad for you..  I don't know about any of the medication you are taking so I don't have any advice..   Is it possible the zoloft could be causing you problems?  I have heard bad things about zoloft..  but in all honestly, I really don't know...

My 10 yo daughter has been on biaxin for lyme/bartonella for 1 year now.  We have also been treating with rifampin and lately pulsed tindamax.  We check her liver enzymes monthly and they have been fine so far.  When she started she had a significant herx reaction which resolved after a few weeks; there has been no complaining of other symptoms (metallic taste etc.).  She has shown a lot of improvement, but her bart symptoms still relapse when we try to withdraw Abx.  

 dh22,  No GI issues for me on Biaxin, though I get dizzy & nauseated fairly often..

One thing I learned from being on lyme forums for all these years is that everyone is different and responds differently to medication and/or herbs.

If you just started Biaxin and feel reactions from it then in my non-medical opinion I would stop it.  That's me.  I listen to my body. 

Edit (adding):  I remember in the 80's I was having some serious dental work done and was given penicillin which I took because back then I had the mindset to listen to whatever a doctor told me to do.  Within 24 hours I broke out and had rashes all over my body which itched like crazy.  I called the dentist and he told me to stop taking the medication.  He told me I was officially allergic to penicillin. 

My point is my body let me know I was allergic to penicillin and will be for the rest of my life.  Today I question everything and usually I get more information from a pharmacist compared to a doctor.
