Anybody bought a wheel chair?

I hate to think about this, but I am getting to the point with the dizziness, the stumbling, the falling and the loss of motor control on the left side that I feel like I need a wheel chair. I force myself to function every day with out one now, and it's honestly getting too hard. When I do complain I get looked at like a moron or worse yet, that look of sure.... you're "sick", right...

Today hubby got mad at me for "brain fogging"! I know he's frustrated but wow, that hurt my feelings.

Maybe if I quit functioning on such a high level, my family will take me seriously? Is that the wrong way to look at this? I don't know.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Is there something with the left side? That is where I loose my motor functions also. I have never used a chair but it would be handy for the times you are unable to walk. Good luck and I hope that you will soon regain everything that you have lost. It is really hurtful when people treat you badly for things you can't control. I think everyone on here can empathize with that. people are very encouraging and kind on here though and that boosts my spirit anyways :).

I was considering getting a wheelchair a few months ago - I was too stubborn to do so though, and luckily I did get my legs functioning better in time, but I missed out on a lot of life by just staying in because I couldn't walk instead of sucking it up and taking the best care I could of myself and getting myself something to aid in moving around. Whatever is going to help you get through the day and help you heal, by all means, do it! You could also try a cane or even a crutch in the meantime - usually people see a crutch and just assume you're recovering from some kind of injury that they're not going to judge you for like they so frustratingly do with these kinds of "invisible" illnesses.

I've been in your shoes - can't count the number of times my mind has just totally blanked out on me and instead of a nice pat on the shoulder saying, "oh, gee, I'm sorry you have to deal with your brain not cooperating - that must be so frustrating!" I've gotten criticized or yelled at for it! Such a pain! I wish everyone in your life could be more understanding and supportive, but at least know that we're all proud of you for being able to work your butt off to continue to function well despite how sick you are - it's no easy task, for sure!

Thanks everyone. It's been rougher than usual lately and I really appreciate the kind words. I have been a member here for a while and have always tried to be a giver, not asking for anything.

Last night I found a lump in my breast and that freaked hubby out to the point where he stopped giving me a hard time. I have had three benign tumors removed in the past, my body seems to make them every so often. I will go on Monday and see what the GYN says.

Will insurance cover a wheelchair? Is that something I have to talk my doc into or should I just buy one off craig's list? Anyone know?

I have a transfer wheelchair that my insurance company covered with a prescription from my doctor.  It is much easier than the larger wheel models to get into the car trunk, but it gets very uncomfortable if I am in it for very long.  I also have to rely on someone to push me in the transfer type.  I use it for some appointments, but when I'm at home I use a walker.
