One thing with amphetamines - they push the adrenals, so please be careful with them!! I often wish I could use them, but because my adrenals keep trying to crash, I have to avoid them and many other stimulants.
I have come back cognitively quite a bit. I'm sure it's like everything else though, each person will be different.
I was to the point where I couldn't follow written or oral directions (of any type, not just driving), I couldn't follow patterns (couldn't put together shish-ka-bobs), when someone spoke to me, it literally sounded like someone was talking in a language I've never heard before if they didn't speak quite slowly and enunciate each word well. There was no way for me to follow a book's story line, or even a movie's story line. Without spell check, no one could have figure out what I was typing, not even me when I would go back and try to read it! I'm sure there's more, but I'm getting tired again
and that's when I start having those cognitive issues creep back in again.
I dealt with some pretty serious paranoia, Lyme rage (or was it from the Bart infection?), and I got lost everywhere I went, even though I had been there countless times over the last 10 years.
I do pretty well I think, I'm about
65 - 70% better now, although I may never be back to where my peers are, but that's okay because I'm here and I'm back enough to participate in life!!
