Eating BAD affecting your acid reflux for days?

Hey,

I had chinese for the first time saturday for special occasion and it had been years since I had it. I had acid reflux from it for hourssssss. Well 3 days later I am still burping up stuff regularly and more then average...even celery,etc..makes me wonder

I just experienced the same thing with bread. I've been gluten free for almost 2 months. Over the weekend, I "let my hair down" for a dinner out with friends and ate what I wanted-including bread. I had severe acid reflux that night. I had more bread the following day at a family get together and experienced the same thing. I guess I know that I have a hard time digesting it now! Sure did taste good though, LOL!

LOL. Is it still affecting you..assuming you didnt do any today? I dont know why it'd stay with me today though still.

Yes, I still have a little reflux today. Also, as far as the belching, that's something that I experienced CONSTANTLY before beginning Bartonella treatment with Rifampin. I used to belch for hours after eating and I know it's gross, but I would belch up food from days prior. It was so awful. My LLMD said that Bart really attacks the gut and I believe it. I went off of the Rifampin for 5 days per my LLMDs recommendation and all of the GI stuff had come back within 3 days! I couldn't believe that it came back so quickly!

Food can have it's effects till about 3 to 5 days after consuming it. When I'm trying to add food to my restrictive diet, I need to wait 5 days before adding another food just to be sure it's ok.
Chinese food often contains a lot of MSG (monosodium glatamate) and that can cause acid reflux, and some other effects.
I avoid it. I also avoid everything that has sulfite in it.

Eating sugar (the cheap fructose or 'white' sugar) always worsens acid reflux when I eat it.
For me belching means that I have eaten something I shouldn't eat - I try to listen to that sign my stomach gives and avoid that kind of food in the future. (not always succesful - lol)

your LLMD has to be right - my digestive system has been a mess, and still is.

I haven't had real sugar in a long time, don't eat any gluten or chocolate, citrus or tomato products due to acid and I still have major problems with acid reflux. Belching is not my problem, I get VERY severe heartburn and the acid will even rise into my throat so my Dr. has me take a pill each day to help reduce the acid and I take 6 digestive enzymes per day to keep it under control.

Have you ever been tested for food allergies and intolerances?

I was really sick with my tomach for about 8 years. The dr who's treating me now sends all of his patients to a dietician and also get them tested for food allergies at US Biotech.

Once I was on a severe elimination diet (+28 days of Nexiam to treat the gastritis I had), the problems just disappeared. I was amazed how quick my stomach problems disappeared.
I was taking ameprazole for 8 years, and at the end that wouldn't help anymore. I had really bad GERD, causing very frequent bronchites. I had no need for omeprazole anymore. I'm taking it now, because of the abx, but I hope everything will be back to normal when I'm off those.

If you decide to go to a dietician, make sure you find one with a lot of experience in allergies and intolerances - someone just specialised in loosing weight won't be enough.

Oh, I forgot this:

Are you using artificial sweeteners? These are also very bad for GERD (and plenty of other things, it's pure poison). You can replace it by Stevia. I always carry it with me in my handbag.

Whenever I drink or eat something with artificial sweeteners (it's very rare, and it happens unintentional), I get a severe stomach ache and GERD.

no,not artificial sweeteners..my diet is pretty clean. I avoid Soy,Gluten,Most Dairy(goat cheese,some preservative free grass fed cow yogurt),high fructose corn syrup,msg,etc....so very likely my chinese had MOST of these things i listed! lol

im still feeling it..hope you are more better..

Marie is absolutely right. I don't have Lyme, but I do have some bad eating habits late at night sometimes. I sometimes go through periods where i eat junk snacks late at night, right before I go to bed. I wake up after an hour or two with a very bad case of acid reflux. If I ihave dione this several days in a row, then I tend to have acid reflux at night for several days in a row, even if have stopped eating the late night junk snacks.

I also have found that i should not eat spicy food late in the evening. If I eat a late dinner, it can also cause the acid reflux. Another issue for me is the turmeric that i take. I use about about a teaspoon in the green drink that I take. Turmeric is very spicy and stays with me for a while.

I have also noticed that many of the herbs and supplements will in general make you more likely to have an acidic stomach like Japanese knotweed, vitamin C etc. so you might become more sensitive to these things until you stop taking the supplements as well.

thanks all,It is just hard for me to believe I would still be experiencing this..might have to buy more digestive enzymes!
