So scared to get bitten again

Hi Everyone,

I was bitten in October 2012 so I have dealt with Lyme and Bartonella for 6 months. As you all know it is a roller coaster from hell. I am terrified to be outside again. Does anyone else feel this way. I feel 100 per cent traumatized.

I can certainly understand how you feel! Anybody that has this illness does not need additional exposure to microbes when you are already battling them.

Now that my daughter has been well for 3 years, the fear of the bugs is lessening. If you can get well and healthy again, there is really no need to live in fear like that. Heather has no fear about that as far as I can tell. She takes reasonable precautions to check herself for ticks when has been outside for a while, and also to shower thoroughly every day. Other than that we do not let the memory of her illness control our lives.

I hope that you can find the same peace.

I am with you and I am afraid for my 3 kids who love to spend time in the woods, etc. I am trying not to overly worry but it is hard. So, I am with you on that one.

I feel the same way. It's hard to go to the park with my kids and feel the same way about it as I used to. I do think that once we recover, that will fade, but for now I won't be sitting in the grass or hiking in the woods any time soon!

If I ever get well I will never sit on the grass again for sure. I won't walk in the woods ever again. This disease has taken so many years from me and I'm starting to doubt I'll recover but if I do....I will be Very very careful while outside.

I will never go in the woods again, I will not sit on a stone wall, rodents run in and out of them, I will never walk barefoot outside, I will never go on a hay ride again, I don't want pets, and I will never get a live Christmas tree. I read about someone who got Lyme from a tick brought into the house on one. The list goes on......I have already had too much of my life stolen. It won't happen again!

Your talking about my core, my blood, my being.

Camping, hiking and exploring. I am unable to do any of them right now, bur I'm going to.

I will change my attack plan some though. More poisons, more checks, more showers, and less going off trails in wet areas.

I don't want to sit in this house, or walk in a mall, I want to see a owl, bobcat or hear a sandhill crane.

Nature is ALMOST perfect.

I'm with Tom, this disease has taken so much away from me,but it's certainly not going to stop me walking in the forests and meadows!

I love nature and I can't imagine a life without it.

Foolhardy? perhaps, but it's a risk I'm willing to take.

I'm with Tom and Tickledpink...

There's nothing that relaxes me more than going out in nature, it's THE thing that makes me TRULY happy and at ease.

I'll be cautious though, and especially conscious about the risks.
