Igenex positive igm neg igg asymptomatic

I am so confused. I had the wb done through igenex and it came back positive for igm and negative for igg. I had several positive bands and a few ind. This makes no sense! I know I don't have a current infection because I haven't been outside all winter and on top of it I have zero symptons and have never had a tick on me. I havent had a cold in years and never had flu symptons or fevers for no reason. . I am not big on outdoor activity so now I wonder about those tests and how accurate they are. Maybe I am wrong or maybe almost every single person on earth will have positive bands. Who knows!!!! This may sound stupid but can lyme be in our meat. I mean if an infected tick bites a cow and we eat meat could we get it that way. Help! Desperate for answers and worried about my three kids. Thank you!

Hi Monty,

In answer to your question...you could have a latent infection for years, yes, years and one day WHAM - it starts spreading. So I wouldn't necessarily rule out infection based on your prior years activities.

As far as eating a cow...doubtful. Pretty much everything you ingest is destroyed by stomach acid. And cooking the meat as long as it reaches a safe temperature should kill the bacteria.

Sorry that last post was from my 3 year old. I had it because my baby had a rash and was treated for Lyme disease back in September so I got my whole family tested and we all were igenex positive for Lymes but the only one who had symptons was my little one. I live in Michigan and supposedly they don't have a lot of lyme here. I just don't understand how we all got positives and have no symptons.

I first tested my other two kids and was shocked to see they were igenex pos so I tested myself to see if I would also get a pos and I did. So I don't know what to think. I doubt I had it while pregnant because the only sympton my baby had was a few em rashes which I treated with amoxicillin and hopefully is cured so I don't know what to think. Just a super worried mom who needs answers!!!

Hi Monty,

I was re-tested this fall because I felt I was relapsing. (I was.)

I tested positive on the IgM and the IgG. From what I understand, an old infection can be treated by the immune system like it is something new, and therefore IgM antibodies will be produced.

Sometimes the ticks can be super tiny and easily missed. A nymph is the size of the period at the end of this sentence.

There is a huge bumper crop of ticks out there right now. They're in every state. Sadly, no state is "safe". It's a problem for everyone, everywhere now.

Oh, I wanted to add that no season is safe either. One of the kids I care for was bitten in the dead of winter. A tick had been in the Christmas tree or firewood and was brought into the house. The heat of the house wakes the ticks up.

Thank you for your responses. The llmd told me to wait for symptons. They won't treat otherwise. I called several other llmds and they all say the same thing.

In your case, you and your husband could both have it without symptoms or there's a small chance it could be a false positive (4% according to IGenex versus 28% false negatives).

I actually find the opposite to be mostly the case compared to what you experienced. Many people on here have many symptoms yet test negative. I see this all the time.

A woman I sent to my LLMD just got her results yesterday and posted them on a different forum that she didn't have any double-starred bands positive on the IgM and she's pretty sick with tons of symptoms.

Thank you. Do you know why they don't treat without symptons? I don't feel comfortable waiting to get sick. I am specially worried for my kids more than myself. I called the best llmds of the country and that is what they told me.

Well think about it. If you were a doctor would you treat someone that didn't feel sick? How would a doctor even know when to stop treatment? You may never get sick as some don't even if they have Borrelia in their body. Maybe you were exposed and your body fought it off or is keeping it in remission or maybe a virus cross-reacted and caused some of the bands to become positive and you don't have Lyme. Tough to say for sure.

That's why I wonder if most people have borelia in their body but only some get sick from it but who knows! Thank you so much for your answers!
