hi I need help. I have a md that has tested me for lyme and it is negative with a conventional lab. I saw a lyme doctor that said the igenex test is showing some color on the bands for lyme. and that I have had babesia in the past. the test stated inconclusive?

I told the lyme doctor my regular md says I do not need to take the antibiiotics he ordered, because it will cause me to have c diff and that I do not have lyme. the lyme doctor says I do have it but He will not treat me now because he knows my regular doctor and cannot risk losing his license by treating me. he states I will have to find another lyme doctor.

I am also being evaluated for cancer because I have a lesion on my spine. can anyone tell me how to get a accurate test for lyme disease and how to get it and where?

Hi, I can't help you with the rest unfortunately. I only know of Igenex and the new lab Advanced Lab for lyme. I don't know enough to explain why it's said to be good, the new one.

I found info on lyme causing spine lesions from Columbia University Medical Center (Research Center) site.

For those of us that believe lyme is in fact MS they seem to compare the 2 saying they "both" cause brain and spine lesions so test for lyme if a person is told they have MS and that is causing the lesions.

In your case, you were told possible cancer is causing the lesions.

**There's a lot of search info online stating IF they are caused by lyme, they get smaller and disappear with treatment.

I cannot thank you enought for this information. I may have to go there or somewhere to get a diagnosis. I am so distraught I am about to give up and just kill myself. I have not help and my family doesn't care. I cannot hardly function I am getting so hopeless

Call IGeneX and ask about the antibiotic challenge protocol for getting a more accurate test result.

Also, the Advanced Labs test is a culture test. The lab puts your blood into a Lyme friendly broth (i.e., food for Lyme) and lets it sit for 2 weeks. If any Lyme grows, you get a positive result.

If negative at 2 weeks, they leave it sit for another couple months and then look at it again. If any Lyme has grown, you get a positive test.

A negative result does not mean you do not have Lyme (there may have been no spirochetes in the blood sample sent to the lab), but a positive result is absolute confirmation you have Lyme.

I don't know if there are any parameters about if one needs to be off antibiotics for the culture test...it is very new and I don't know much about it.

Unfortunately, the situation you describe is very common. To be honest, even if your Western Blot was positive, your PCP would probably deny that you have it. The advanced lab culture test is more accurate; however, some of the medical community is already disputing it (not surprising!) and saying that the lab is just out to make money. Ridiculous! So, even if you have that test and it comes back positive, your PCP would probably still deny it.

If you found a new PCP and didn't mention the lyme diagnosis to him/her, would the LLMD you saw agree to treat you? Is there any way that you could get to a more well-know LLMD that isn't worried to treat you?

Another option right now would be to start on an herbal protocol such as Stephen Buhner's protocol. He lists it on his homepage of his site.

And, yes, lyme can cause brain and/or spinal lesions.
