Back to snacks - if you really want something "bad" like ice cream try to put a smaller serving in the bowl then top it with bananas and nuts and see if that helps satisfy the craving while substituting some healthier stuff.
I think dessert came about because lots of people have a sugar dump right after eating. I think it has to do with the blood that gets tied up in the work of digestion. So a little sweet after eating may be good. Purists can stick with fruit, but I take refuge in the knowledge chocolate is high in antioxidants. :)
As for the hamburger - maybe you should make meatball size patties so you don't waste them? Are you anemic? If you notice unhealthy levels of weight loss you'll need to treat food like medicine and make yourself eat as a ritual. Protein shakes are good for that. Buck up and chug! Also, Zinc and Copper play a role in taste perception. Do you take a multivitamin or other supplements?
My son's appetite has gone down and he tastes things differently than usual. Some things are sour that I taste as sweet. What a weird bug.
