I have a past history of major depression, anxiety disorder and panic attacks and have been on a variety of meds for these problems. In my case my psychiatrist explained them as a definite chemical imbalance.
These problems pretty much disappeared when my lyme symptoms begun, it was so strange, as if the lyme had effected all of my brain chemistry. I had gone off most of my medications.
When I started treating the lyme, at different intervals, I had severe anxiety everyday beginning in the late afternoon. If that happens Xanax works well.
Sometimes months go by and I have no anxiety and I don't have to take it and I'm fine.
The depression issues are more of a problem. I feel like the depression from lyme is very different than other depression I have faced. I had post-partum depression and it is similar to that. I find it very scary and not something for me to tough out! I take Wellbutrin and Cymbalta, although the Cymbalta is for nerve pain I think it helps too.
Sometimes I'm doing fine and all of the sudden the depression hits me hard and fast with no warning signs. This has been better with adding the Wellbutrin.
Good luck and I hope you find relief quickly!
