flagyl - brain feels swollen, vomiting

I know Flagyl can cause neurological problems and I'm wondering if the problems I am having are from Flagyl.

I've felt even dizzier and weaker than before I was taking it. I'm having even more trouble sleeping as well because me entire brain feels swollen like you can hear my heartbeat in it and its throbbing and me head shakes. Additionally my limbs have been twitchy often, which I was hoping was just killing the bugs, but with the brain swelling feeling I'm concerned about neurological side effects. I fear something very bad may have come from these meds.

Additionally, I vomited today which is a rare occurrance for me--I'm thinking this is from the Flagyl too even though I've been taking it for about 4 days now.

My doctor is not reachable til tomorrow morning and wanted to know if this is normal as it is pretty scary for me

It won't hurt anything to stop it and wait until you can get a hold of the doctor. Better safe then sorry. It could be a side effect or a herx. Its so hard to tell unfortunately :/

Sorry you're feeling like this...have you read up on the side effects vs. the severe the side effects of Flagyl? I had a bad time on Biaxin and come to find out I was suffering from the severe side effects and had to stop immediately.

So sorry for this...let us know what the doctor says. But I agree with opugirl. Stop the medication, drink a lot of water and rest.

Thanks guys. I did end up not taking the medication last night.

The doctor said I am probably herxing bad (especially since I was taking a full dose of 1 pill 3 times a day for 2 days since he didn't have instructions) and to go off the Flagyl for a week or until I feel better and then start taking it again. Although its hard to tell when I'm feeling 'better' since I was so bad before. It works out well because by then I may have my blood test results back and I'll have a better idea if babesia or some other coinfection is the/a culprit.

Yes I'm just supposed to detox until then. Unfortunately I am not really able to rest. I started school today and going around campus made me realize how severe this illness and/or this medication has made me feel. Could barely concentrate on anything, breathe, walk, swallow, see, its just awful. I cannot believe I even got through this day and I hope that nobody else has or ever has to experience this feeling.

Any ideas on detoxing from Flagyl specifically?
