Can I afford treatment for myself and small children? Or is it impossible?

I've been feeling really sick for about a year, but have had many unexplained symptoms over the last 10+ years. I found a very highly recommended doctor(luckily near my area), and from what I can find out, he is very moderately priced compared to others.

No positive test yet, but I am certain(or as sad as it is to say, hopeful)that lymes(and co-infections)are the cause of my problems, so I can start focusing on the cure, and not the cause. I also fear I have passed this to both of my children in pregnancy.

This doctor has many great reviews, charges way less for office visits than others I've checked out, and is only adding on a $100(instead of full office visit cost)to treat my children.

I'm scared that I won't be able to afford treatment for us, and was wondering if anyone could fill me in on the costs involved. Treatment will be in WI.

No one here has any info regarding cost? Or how long it took? Even rough estimates would be appreciated....

I was spending about 275 month until the pharmacy realized they'd been charging me the wrong co-pay for my injections. Now it'll be 425.

I've had to give up my studio because of this lyme (et al) nonsense.

Hi Soo,

My drs appointment costs me $120/visit so monthly plus I spend $120/month or so on antibiotics and then I spend a whole lot more on supplements and such. There are alternative protocols that you can use and do by yourself like buhners, jernigans, and I think a few others.

Thanks for the responses...are both of yours going through insurance? I shudder to think what it's going to be with no insurance(unless my crap insurance co. actually comes through)

My insurance only covers prescriptions (minus the co-pay). Everything else (Dr. appts, supplements, etc) are out of pocket.

SoOverThis, I live in Northern Illinois and I had to pay $475.00 for the first LLMD visit and he does not take insurance. I got a couple of prescriptions from him that are good for three months. My medicine has averages about $200.00 a month, not inclusive of the herbal and natural supplements.

Illinois has a Children First Program that is sponsored by the State and it covers some and sometimes all (depending on financial need) the medical expenses for children under 18. Have you researched to see if Wisconsin might have a similar plan?

As for the testing, I don't know if you are aware of Lyme-Tap (http://www.lymetap.com/). They might help cover some of the testing costs.

Good luck to you in getting this issue resolved. I know how financially difficult it is to come up with the money, specially when we are so ill and sometimes incapacitated.

Sure you can,
As long as you get diagnosed correcty the first try, find the protocol that works for you and everyone in the house.
Don't drink alcahol( to save money)
Don't take a vacation even though you have to right now.
And get healed within 5 months.


Of coarse this was NOT the road I traveled!!!!

Hi,

First of all so sorry you are going thru all of this. It is really hard at the beginning but once you find a good doctor and start treatment you will feel better.

I live in CT. and I am on Medicaid. I see my dr. once a month but sometimes I stretch it out. He needs to see me that much because I'm I.V. meds. I pay him $250.00 which is very reasonable compared to others in the area.

My insurance covers ALL my medication. I am very lucky, Because I have a child I qualify for this type of insurance. I qualify for medicare because I am on SSD but medcaid has much better coverage for me. In fact medicare will not cover any in home infusion.

The antibiotics are with insurance the drs visit is not. However my lyme dr does take insurance just not mine and I get re-imbursed through my company about 60% of the doctor visits which I really need to do b/c I haven't done that since April.
