Looking for Lyme doctor-for very complicated case- in New England

I am living in South America but am coming home to New England within a few weeks. I am too sick to stay here. Doctors in this area of the world have no experience with Lyme, auto-immune, etc.

I tested positive for Lyme, co-infections, auto-immune hypothyroid, Epstein Barr, etc. I have some very odd issues: 1. According to blood tests, my immune system is suppressed.
2. I constantly contract cellulitis-type bacterial infections-that become systemic-from minor scratches
3. Mostly all medication and nutritional supplements work crazy. It feels like something in my system-
Lyme? Auto-Immune? or something else is blocking/fighting them, so they do not work properly.
Everything causes inflammation and all symptoms to become worse. Acupuncture does the same
thing. Whether it be antibiotics, cortisone, fish oil, probiotics, curcumin,... everything works in
a bizarre manner.

4. I have elevated copper, mercury, aluminum, low neurotransmitters, mild anemia. Potassium
level continues to increase.
5. An acupuncturist said my kidneys, liver, spleen need attention.
6. Very elevated sex hormone binding globulin(200s), very low growth hormone(IGF-1: 34)

I live on Social Security and only have Medicare.

Can you please recommend physicians-especially Naturopaths-in New England, who have experience with Lyme
and complicated issues? I read that there is someone in Connecticut who is very good. Can you please give
me his name?

I am desperate. I am always tired, with no strength or stamina.

Hi Jo, so sorry you're going through this. You mentioned that everything you try causes your symptoms to be worse, and I'm wondering if you've ever heard of a herx. That's when the bacteria die off very quickly, due to treatment, which causes symptoms to increase for periods of time. This actually means the treatment is working, and that you need to detox(new to Lyme thread has this info).

Also NEVER take steroids(cortisone)with Lyme disease. It can make symptoms way worse, and harder to treat because it supresses your immune system.

You can also click on the blue usernames and see that most of us have activated ours. My LLMD is very good AND takes medicare but he is in Southern PA so I don't know if that is an option for you. Call around to find someone that you can afford.

Or you can look up herbal schools specifically near you, ask if they have a clinic and associated costs etc. Explain to them your illness (many are familiar with lyme) and if they have a specialist that would be willing to work with you. Many offer very low costs and even free herbal services to those in need.

I would also recommend checking out our "new to lyme, start here" thread. Lots of information on important topics like detoxing, symptoms, where to find LLMD. Nutrition and detox are very important puzzle pieces to consider with lyme. Make sure you are drinking at least 2L of clean water a day. Avoid all alcohol, caffiene and sugary drinks for the time being.

This is a great site for advice and information. Hope the trip home isn't too bad. Also, lyme can be responsible for screwing up lots of things like hormones and neurotransmitters. My naturopathic doctor said that I was testing positive for lots of viruses/co infections/Heavy metals. As treatment has progressed I have tested for less and less of these each time. I have been using a lot of organ support like liver, kidney when I needed it because antibiotics won't do much for that. :) Feeling good these days, hang in there!
