Babesia- newly diagnosed.

I am new to this forum. I was recently diagnosed with Lyme in June, 2013 due to a small rash I discovered that grew to about the size of a nickel between May 8, 2013 -June, 2013. A friend who has chronic lyme got me to see a specialist. I took Doxy for a month. Bloodwork came back from igenex positive for lyme, and also showing mycoplasma on Labcorp tests, but I have been exposed to pneumonia and bronchitis several times as a child and a few times as an adult. Then I was on Zithromax for 6 weeks along with the herb, AL Complex to treat the mycoplasma just in case and the AL Complex to continue treating the Lyme just in case. During this whole time, I always felt nauseous but thought it was due to the medications. As a test, my doc took me off Zithromax for a week, nauseousness increased and then I asked her to re-test me at igenex for babesia, which came back positive this past Thursday. I have been on Mepron and Zithromax the last 4 1/2 days and the nauseousness has finally subsided. She wants me to continue AL Complex too. I hate it though as I thought is was making me
more nauseous for awhile there.
I am 5 months after my bite(never saw the tick by the way, just a small growing rash accompanied with Lyme symptoms).

Does anyone know if I have a good chance of killing this babesia off starting 5 months after the initial infection? This whole thing is scaring me. I am getting married in the spring and would like to start a family too. If I get pregnant, will the baby be pre-disposed to this?
Will I be able to rid myself of this completely? Am I still catching this early enough? Does anyone know?

Welcome to the forum!! Kudos to you for staying on top of your health and it sounds like you have a good doctor as well. I definitely think you can get rid of babesia. If your immune system is inhibited it is hard to do so. It is a juggling act between bacteria competing and what your body goes through. As Joe suggested babesia takes a little while to treat min. ~4 months because that is the lifecycle of a red blood cell.

There are alternatives to traditional antibiotics like artemesia annua or cryptolepis/sida acuta for babesia. Were it me...and I'm also of 'baby-making age' I would put plans on hold just for a little while. You want to make sure that you are good and healthy before popping out any babies. We have a lot of members on here that became ill after giving birth because when you are pregnant your immune system is weak. I say work on building up that immune system - getting rid of these parasites...give yourself a break and make sure you are healthy...and then, let the baby making begin LOL!

Definitely something I would talk to an LLMD about too. We have a lot of helpful tips on this site too and a few pregnant folks are on here now/again that have taken preventatives while pregnant to keep their immune systems high and babies lyme free.

I can speak only for myself. Every year without fail I would get a Flu shot, some years I even got the Flu!
This year, I'm not getting the shot. I have no idea what it would do to my body now that I'm sick. I would also like to hear from others with their experience. My LLMD told me it was entirely up to me to decide.

Thank you for posting this video! It is very educational. Just today my LLMD told me he thinks he has the lyme under control but these remaining symptoms are Babesia. Now trying Malarone along with Artisimisin (sp?).
