Hair loss on legs and red feet.

These two symptoms might be my strangest ones, and I'm wondering how they relate to LD.

If I do just a little walking my feet start turning red. It usually starts around the toes, and spreads across the whole foot if I stay on my feet. It is associated with almost a burning/itching feeling, and pain/swelling. If I am walking outside (in the sun) it is much worse. My whole foot glows bright red when I go get my son from school, and that's a 4 minute walk from my front door. Rest in cool environments helps.

The other symptom is even weirder. I'm losing hair on both my legs, progressively moving up from the ankle up. It started a couple months ago, and it has taken this long to get about a quarter of the way up the shin. One of my friends said it looks like I've been wearing socks, but I assure you I haven't (I live in Florida and can't stand being hot). The hair isn't falling off in splotches or anything, it just seems to have stopped growing. It looks and feels like I shaved the bottom part of my legs. How weird is that?!

Has anyone experienced these problems?

Yep,I've had the red feet,the soles on both of mine went raspberry coloured,but I'm glad to say they're back to a healthy rosy pink smilewinkgrin

I think it's Bart related.

I can't comment on the hair loss on your legs however I've got a wierd hair symptom,too.my once curly hair has gone staight............how is that possible?

Just when you think you've had every crazy wierd symptom possible,good old Lyme throws something at you that is well and truly bonkers LOL:

I would say be sure that you aren't dealing with Raynaud's Phenomenon www.arthritis.org/conditions-treatments/disease-center/raynauds-phenomenon/

I had all of my body hair stop growing for a time - even the hair on my head. I believe mine was mainly due to lack of nutrition getting to the right places due to leaky gut brought on by Lyme disease. Vitamin B12 deficiency (locally in the tissues) can cause problems with hair growth on various places on the body. So it is likely a circulation issue...which Lyme, Bart, and probably just about all the coinfections can cause...

The red feet thing - I agree, that sounds like my feet too - when I had RSD really badly in my feet they did that a lot. And I think RSD is one manifestation of Bart, because Bart really messes with nerves.

Epsom salt foot soaks are excellent for this, as are essential oils (applied topically on the feet). Clove oil kills Bart...but other oils like Tea Tree or Oregano can also be helpful. Might like Peppermint, too - it is cooling, and anti-inflammatory.

Thank you so much for all the information. I do have low B-12 and testosterone levels, but that's been going on since I first got sick in 2011 (along with thinning hair on my head), and this hair loss on my leg just started recently. I just started my oral abx treatments, so I'm interested to see if this changes anything.

Other than that, I'll need to start doing some foot soaks and researching these Raynaud's and Leaky Gut syndromes. Thanks again for the help and letting me know I'm not alone with these strange happenings.

My curly hair is almost gone beautician that cuts my hair even commented on

how when she started cutting my hair it had a lot more wave..... Know almost stick straight. I've

always had curly hair, didn't like it as a kid, but miss it as an adult.  I do have leaky gut, trying

to keep a good diet..

Hi there, I've got hair loss, too. A bit different from yours, it's weird though. I've lost the hair on my arms completely. My mom says it's a symptom of aging (I'm 60), but it seems strange. I used to have blond hair on my arms, not super long and thick, but definitely there. If you don't mind my being totally nitty-gritty, I've also lost most of my pubic hair. I thought I'd read somewhere that hair loss can be a symptom of Lyme, but my LLMD hadn't heard of it.

Damage from B12 deficiency is cumulative...meaning, the longer you are deficient, the more things can go wrong.

I hope you are getting B12 shots at least once a week, or at the very least, taking sublingual B12 supplements daily?

Razzle, I give myself shots of B-12 once a week. Only 1ml. My most recent labs show that I'm not technically "low" on B-12 anymore, but I'm definitely not in the normal range for someone my age. Maybe I'll ask my docs about upping the dosage.

Hi Ccbrunk--

Good for you for giving yourself the B-12 shot. I used to have nurse friends give me them. Where do you give your injection?? Rear end, was it very hard to get used to doing them? I have to give myself subQ Heparin twice daily in my belly.

But with B-12, does that go into the muscle?? It would be so much more convenient if I could give myself the B-12.
Any tips??

Ask your LLMD or your primary if they will prescribe the B-12 shots that you can give yourself. If you do get the 'script, many will give themselves the injection in the thigh.
