HallieMay, homeopathy is one form of medicine, but not like drugs. The remedies are made from plants, animals, and minerals and are highly diluted. It's based on the principal of like cures like (law of similars), so if you get a cold that makes you feel like you cut open an onion, then you would need the remedy "allium cepa", which is made from an onion.

The man who developed it did it over 100 years ago, so it's nothing new. It saved more lives than drugs did during an epidemic in the late 1800s I believe. It was used in the US a lot, until the AMA formed and about shut them down. The royal family has a homeopath.

Hahnemann developed it by experimenting on himself, recording reactions he had to different substances. Those are called "provings".

My first remedy (other than the one for my bladder infection) was phosphorus. I would get an energy burst and start to do something, but would fizzle out soon after. That's what the element phosphorus does. After being on it a while, I was able to do more during the day and not just lay around the whole day, feeling miserable. He would increase the potency during the course of treatment, then switch to a different remedy based on the prominent symptoms that remained. I never did mention my knee problems, since they were the least of my problems, but they got better in spite of that, showing how the remedies work on so many areas. The most surprising thing I noticed was how people responded to me before and after treatments. They would just stare at me when I was at my worst, no smile or anything. When I was better, people would say hi or smile when we passed in a store aisle. The first time someone did that I looked to see who was behind me and there was no one.

My doctor always stressed not to treat anyone's chronic illness, only minor things, such as a cold or flu. There's a certain order of healing they go by, so it's best to use a classical homeopath. I was lucky to have the chance to take the classes and learn a lot about it before I tried it. I'm not sure how I learned with the state of health I was in, but I did. I really don't think I'd be around if I had stuck with the medical profession. He taught that people get worse at first, then improve. I never did feel worse and he told me I was so ill I had no way to go but up.

I hope this gave you a little understanding of the medicine. Many people confuse homeopathy and naturopathy, but naturopathy covers several modalities and homeopathy is a a single modality.

Thank you Traveler. It does get a bad rap from some people who have never used it or learned about it. I was leery of it when I first heard about it, so I took the classes on it and started up with treatment after a few classes.

I got my dad to go to him after he had been on large doses of antibiotics and we helped my mom administer them. One day he told me he would do anything I wanted him to do after helping him, so I asked if he'd see my doctor and he agreed. He was put on the remedy 'Arsenicum' (yes, arsenic) and after his first 3 doses, he started to experience the antibiotic side effects. My mom called me, wanting to have him stop taking it because of that, saying it was the same symptoms he had whenever we'd administer the antibiotics. I told her that shows it's not a side effect of the remedy, it's the remedy clearing the antibiotics out of his body, which was saturated with them. I told her he could take it once a day instead, to slow it down and he decided to wait until he went back to my doc. He told him what had happened and what I had told him to do, so he told my dad that he should listen to his daughter. We both laughed. He had bacterial endocarditis.

I first saw it used on a toddler that was having a temper tantrum. Her mom gave her a remedy and I could see her start to settle down shortly after and then she was back to being a happy girl.

I want to use my original homeopath, but I'd have to go to Arizona for the first appointment and I don't feel up to a long trip. I was hoping to just do it all through Skype. Maybe I could have his good friend here do the physical, then I wouldn't have to travel. He knows my history and got me better so fast.

Imagine that! So that fact that Homeopathy works shouldn't even be questioned. It's only a matter of finding what works for your body and what you are willing to use.

And a matter of finding a good classical homeopath! If you take a remedy that's not the right one, then you feel nothing, so that's why many people think it doesn't work.

The most widely known remedy is arnica, used for bumps and bruises a lot. It's also good for someone in a state of shock, which I used on my mom after a fall. It would've saved her a trip to the hospital if they had called me first thing. I used it on my daughter after a head injury, when she was quickly going into a state of shock and it snapped her out of it before we got to the clinic. The doc didn't find any indication that she was in shock.

It would snap my mom out of the effects of antibiotics. She had frequent bladder infections and since she couldn't tell me what symptoms she was feeling, we couldn't peg the right remedy, so she'd go on antibiotics and crash afterwards. One time, she got to the point where she couldn't feed herself or swallow very well and spent most of the time in bed since she was so weak and tired. That's when I brought a homeopath on board. She went to observe mom and chose a remedy and gave it to her. I was told it was one of the slow acting remedies, so it would be a while before it showed if it was working. Nobody told her that, though. Within 10 minutes, she motioned form me to come to her bedside and she told me she thought the medicine was doing something. This was after being there for a week, expecting it might be the end of her life, but it wasn't! I had to go back there the next day and I walked in and found her at the dining table, feeding herself and swallowing fine and talking and laughing with the aide. I couldn't believe it. It just never ceases to amaze me. I've seen it do many things. I think it would be a lot of help to people who have been on long term antibiotics and help with Lyme and co. too. It's just hard to find a good homeopath.

I don't think the tincture is the homeopathic form, but I could be wrong. Not that it wouldn't help with stiffness, etc.

A lot of athletes use a topical arnica that is probable an herbal too.
