please help! Bell's palsy symptoms or dental infection?

I posted earlier today about facial swelling and lip numbness - wondering if it was an infected root canal or lyme. So far there have been no responses.
Been doing some reading and wondering what are the symptoms of Bell's palsy?
My face is swollen (right side), lips are numb, teeth hurt, swelling goes down neck into collar bone, dizzy.
Have been on Amoxacillan for 2 days.

I'm not a doctor, but it could be a reaction to the Amoxicillin. I had mild Bell's Palsy over 1.5 yrs ago, and I didn't have swelling or pain, it was tingling and droopy feeling, and it only effected the side of my face. If I were you, I would call the doc or pharmacy regarding an allergic reaction to rule that out first!

A few people I know had Bell's Palsy and they couldn't drink liquids without it running out of their mouth. How about you?

Could be a herx from the Amoxy. Are you taking a high dose? Good idea as Mrs. Pallas mentioned to rule out an allergic reaction first but you would probably know if you were allergic to penicillin.

Bell's Palsy doesn't generally include any swelling that I'm aware of.

Where is this swelling? Could it be from your thyroid or your lymph glands that sit right under the jaw, but back near the ear? That would explain quite a bit.

Definite swelling and pain on right side of face, neck and collarbone.
Lip numbness is spreading to both sides of face.
I can drink liquids.
I can smile (both sides)
I had an ultrasound of my neck and thyroid and it was normal.
If I don't have any improvement in the next few hours I'm going to the urgent care.

I think that would be the best idea, Canyon. Have you tried a Benadryl? If you tolerate them well (they don't put you to sleep and aren't allergic) you can try using two to bring the swelling down.

One word about going to the urgent care or anywhere else like that - be sure that you don't take the steroids that they will undoubtedly try to give you, unless you are facing an extremely serious situation without them.

Steroids of all types lower the immune function which will allow an infection - Lyme & company - to spread unchecked through out the body - deeper into tissues, bones and organs.

I've told my family, even though I'm no longer in treatment that the only time I want steroids to be used on me is if it will certainly mean my death if I don't. But this has to be up to each person. I'm a bit of an extremist sometimes! :-)

I just now got into an earlier appt. with the endodontist - TODAY!!
and got an appt with the oral surgeon for Wednesday in case it's the tooth.

The endodontist confirmed yesterday that I have a fracture in a root canaled tooth. It didn't show up on the dentists or endondontist x-rays, but it did finally show on a CT scan. I'm having it extracted tomorrow and will have a dental implant. The antibiotics are finally beginning to work and my lip and face are no longer numb. I've had a swollen neck, painful collarbone and ear pain since May that my M.D. had attributed to the Lyme (after a lot of other tests). I had not have any tooth pain until last week - just inflammation on the right side of my neck. I'm very curious to see if all that inflammation goes away after the tooth extraction - maybe it's not the Lyme at all. I could go on about the horrors of root canals (but it's already been done on other websites) - I'll just say, "Don't ever get a root canal - they don't last. Get an implant to start and avoid the long-term pain."

I absolutely agree that root canals are trouble and not a healthy option.  Every one of the root canals I had ended up with infection, cracks, etc. and had to come out anyway after years of pain.

However, I would caution concerning implants as well.  I discovered the hard way....after having brain surgery that included the insertion of a titanium plate....that this supposedly completely bio-compatible metal (titanium) isn't safe for everyone.  They are now discovering that approximately 5% of people are allergic to titanium.  This was discovered, of course, with the sudden increase of titanium implants.  Symptoms can be debilitating.....painful joints and muscles, severe chronic fatigue, nerve pain, pretty much all symptoms associated with Lyme Disease to make things more complicated.  Many people have had tremendous improvement in symptoms once the titanium was removed from their bodies.

There is a test that can be done to test for this allergy (regular skin prick tests are not reliable).  It is a melisa test which can be ordered from Melisa Medica Foundation.  This is important to do before having any metal or foreign substance placed in your body whether for knee or hip replacements, plates after fractures, etc.

I have chronic bells palsy - have had it for years to varying degrees from complete paralysis to mild drooping and it's bilateral. It most definitely does cause swelling in the face, it also for me is caused by Lyme and it is accompanied by teeth swelling, TMJ (possible jaw infection), eye swelling drooping, pain goes right through the length of the body, also effects my tongue, vision, taste, neck, shoulders, hair loss, eyebrows etc.. when I have attacks it is severely painful to the point I feel like I'm being electrocuted. This get worse from eating carbs. I was able to somewhat "control" it by not eating carbs and cleansing which is not the answer at all - but helps if you can cycle it which I'm now trying to do.

High doses of vitamin C also help, I do IV ozone therapy and other herbal antibiotics, colloidal silver and going to start on IV antibiotics as well as rife.

Let me know if you found anything that has helped and what you are doing and how you are doing now?
