I maybe going to Arizona to visit family. I want to be sure there is no way they can catch whatever I have, they are both dealing with health issues and I dont want to risk them catching something from me. I am currently fighting sinusitus, a cough (probably due to drainage according to doctor) and I still have two days left of antibiotics (which have not seemed to help much, still blowing nose, stuffed sinuses, cough when talk). I have been on my back all day except last 1.5 hours so I think I am not being realistic about being able to manage this trip.

I am of the opinion that it can be transmitted from person to person. Medical research from what I have read doesn't think it does but some medical professionals disagree.

As Healing is saying - there's no real proof of any thing. It is a bacterial infection, unless of course, you have one of the newly discovered viral strains (I think there's two??) of Lyme. We are so in need of more research, but all of this B.S. controversy is stopping it.

If you have been flat on your back for this time due to these infections, I sure wouldn't be encouraging you to travel unless it was to see a doc though! Traveling can be very hard on someone who is ill, not to mention how it affects someone who is seriously ill.

Although what I am about to say doesn't address your initial question, I will mention it since a trip was mentioned in the original post.

Traveler is correct that a trip for someone who is ill has to be considered carefully. I took a trip this summer not thinking of what is involved. Buy a ticket, fly there and done, right? Not for me!

I never considered the anxiety of being in such a large space as an airport. I am noise sensitive and the noise at the airport and in the plane was something I had to contend with. Carrying my luggage from the car through the airport was a challenge with my chronic fatigue. Walking from the car to the gate was also a major issue for me. Even the takeoff was an issue to my ear problems. My vertigo/dizziness was impacted each time we hit turbulence. Overall, these are things that I had not considered before my trip. Of course, there are multiple stages of illness with this infection so what affected me may not affect others who are not as sick.

I have been thinking of all those things. I use to travel a lot with a job (another thing I rarely do). And I still recall the last times I traveled (car or air) and it takes a toll. There were a couple times I was feeling better and did manage, only had one case where I had to lay down for a few hours to rest, although was not doing too much to drain energy.

but I am finishing abx so concerned I may start feeling a bit better but in a week when travel I could drive to air port, if I can get up in the morning, get thru security and ten be fearful of symps hitting (greatest anxiety is if I start having IBS symps and being stuck on a plane.

My heart wants to go but not sure my body can handle right now.

Have suspected for some time the disease has mutated and may be passing around efficiently person to person. My husband has a very excellent big doc in Boston who told him new research indicates it may be a virus now infecting people.

Are these studies supported by ILADs? If it is a virus how is it people get better on abx treatment? I wonder if this latest 'research' is to position the public to now respond to the idea of taking new vaccine under development for Lyme, this fits with my doctor recently changing her tune after 5 years and now being told Lyme is more prevalent than initially thought. How can the medical industry be so inept after over 20 years of 'Lyme' (or more), any other business that failed so clearly as the medical establishment has regarding Lyme would have been put out of business years ago.

I agree with Roxie. What is happening is criminal. I get furious about it from time to time and then just have to refocus on getting myself better.

I took a trip recently and it too also laid me out flat on my back crying for four days. I found that the lack of oxygen in the airplane cabin was really hard to deal with and that the altitude for some reason made me herx. I ends up taking oxycodone to get through that part of the trip. So I agree with the others that I would weigh it carefully if you can and get help if you decide to go.

I do not know what research study the doctor was referring to but he said it was new.

We had been tossing around the theory of Possowan virus which is a tick borne illness that killed a boy in NY last summer. I am not sure if that is what he was referring to but like you Roxie we recognized that all the infections weve encounter have been very sensitive to abx.

Of course look at other diseases ie., influenza comes from birds, viruses etc. can recombine and mutate all the time.

Anyway this doc is not a LLMD but he knew the disease was debilitating but also was not advocating for long term abx use. However my husband is on long term abx, tested negative but having fatigue and arthritis and both my son and I are infected.
