I'm an American but had a tick bite outside Barcelona, Spain in June 2013, followed by the tell-tale EM rash, although at the time I didn't know what the rash was and never had it checked due to a strenuous travel schedule. Four weeks later I became seriously ill, saw nearly 20 doctors with no results, and it was not until late September 2013 that I researched Lyme and saw the bullseye rash, putting everything together. Between July and now had Doxy (2 mos at 400/mg/day), and smaller amounts of Levaquin, Azithromycin, and Augmentin, to no avail.
While back in Europe for work (Germany) I asked to be tested to confirm infection (which it was (positive using an LTT but negative on a standard serology test), along with resolving (I guess due to the antibiotics) ehrlichia). Now I'm back in the US and can't find a doctor who will accept the German test result (ELISA and C6 here are negative) or who is willing to believe me that I had the tick bite and rash - so I'm stuck with "chronic fatigue" as the diagnosis. Anyone else here picked up borrelia in Europe (which is usually gariini or afzelli, not burgdorfori) and if so, any insight into treatments in the US? At this point I'm about
ready to book myself two months in Berlin.
Symptoms: fatigue, "bugs" crawling in my forehead, loss of concentration, general malaise and unwell feeling, much worse in heat than cold
