Hi Binduspire, Vanilla extract is a tincture just like the many tinctures that are used here in this forum. Just yesterday I was reading on how to make my own tinctures and in the article they mentioned that Vanilla extract is made the same exact way as a tincture, thus the reason for the alcohol.
If you are concerned about the small amount of alcohol, they recommend that it be added to hot water to evaporate the alcohol. I would imagine that if you are adding the vanilla to something that you are going to bake, that the heat from the oven will evaporate the alcohol.
