Hello all,
Ive been on 1200mg of zithromax for about 5 months now and was slowly feeling better everyday. At least up until a month ago when I started developing new and troubling symptoms such as difficulty breathing, trembling fingers and hands and now the last few days issues swallowing. I know i have lyme but according Igenix (i think thats what its called) I have no co-infections. My doctor thinks it might be babesios so i recently start mepron. Has anyone else had similar symptoms? I'm a little scared because breathing and swallowing issued are not usually associated with Lyme to my understanding.

Have you been doing any detoxing? If not, you should read about it in the new to Lyme thread at the top of the page.

Do yo still have your tonsils? My daughter couldn't swallow pills until her tonsil swelling went down. That wouldn't explain your other symptoms, though.

It sounds like you should consult with your doctor about your symptoms. I hope you find some answers soon.

I have Lyme and Babesios as well. Although, my Bab's test came back negative. I have the difficulty breathing, shortness of breath. I didn't have the trembling though.

Definitely read the new to Lyme and detox! But I agree with Garden Peace, you should talk to your doc about the symptoms!

thanks you and i have been doing the feet and detox bath pretty regularly, is there anything else i should do? also i called my dr office today and she fell and hurt her leg and back pretty badly so its safe to say i probably won't get an appt. for a while lol (just my luck hahaha)

Blake. Do your new symptoms coincide with the time you began to take Mepron? If so, you may want to stop taking it to see if the symptoms subside. If you had the symptoms from before starting mepron then we can rule that out.

Have you noticed changes in the color of your skin or any hives? When you say that you can't swallow, does it hurt when you do or does it feel like the food or whatever you are swallowing gets stuck?

The breathing and swallowing may be related. Have you tried an NSAID to see if it is inflammation? Maybe something you ate irritated the throat or air passages? When you drink water, does it help with the breathing?

You may want to check with the doctor's office and see if they will allow you to stop the medications for a day or two to see if the symptoms get better.

Sorry to hear you are having such uncomfortable symptoms.
I have never gotten a positive test result for Babesia, but my doctor has been treating me for it, as yours is doing. Because you just started taking the Mepron, I think you will find that some of your symptoms increase and you will even have some new ones crop up. That happens to a lot of people and it happened (and is happening (!)) to me. The breathing problem, air hunger, is very typical for Babesia as is the trembling.
Detoxing will help and as time goes by you should see these symptoms resolving themselves.

I had swallowing issues and air hunger at the beginning of my illness. I don't have the swallowing issues so much anymore, but i still get the air hunger sometimes. Symptoms change all the time with this illness. You said swallowing problems are not a symptom. I thought they were.

Hi  Blake W, I don't have any coinfections either, but when I was pretty new into my treatment, I trembled quite a bit. It seemed to happen when I was sleeping most often. Do you notice a pattern when you tremble?

Lyme and some of the coinfections can cause all of these things - the trembling, the swallowing issues, and the difficulty breathing.

And if these symptoms began shortly after starting the Mepron, I'd strongly suspect a Babesia herx...

BTW, tests for coinfections are even less accurate than the regular Lyme tests...so a negative on a coinfection test is not necessarily saying you don't have that specific coinfection...

I would agree with all that's being posted here for you, Blake - but I was wondering about your issues with swallowing.

Can you explain this further? Is the issue up near the top of your throat or further down the throat? If you look in your mouth, can you see the glands and are they swollen?

I have issues with my thyroid and will have issues swallowing due to it being slightly enlarged, but this is around the middle of the throat. It feels like pills particularly will get stuck there. I have also had issues swallowing due to the lymph glands up near the top of my throat being very swollen.

i really really appreciate all of your responses and concerns. I only started taking mepron a week ago so it is very possible that i am/was experiencing a herx ( i just wasn't sure because it seemed like some symptoms disappeared and others appeared out of no where such as the swallowing) its weird because i don't really have a sore throat, it kinda feels as if my throat (near the top of it Traveler) is really small and that food is barely making through, my glands don't seem to be swollen but then again I am no doctor lol. Ever since getting sick I have paranoid of every little symptom, so the weird pattern and new symptoms scared me into thinking that maybe it was something other than lyme or co-infections (of course i don't want any co-infections but i believe it is a lot better to know what is wrong so I can deal with it, instead of not knowing and letting it get worse) I'm hoping to see my doctor soon so hopefully she will have more input as well
once again I really appreciate it and thanks to all of you I feel slightly more relaxed and a lot less stressed.

There are a ton of "weird" sensations and things that seem to happen to us until we learn that it's not so weird when you have these infections!! LOL! That's part of why we are here, so I'm really happy that we were able to help.

But be sure to bring this up with your LLMD. It never hurts to have someone lay eyes on the issue!!
