Lyme is Sexually transmitted

YES it can be sexually transmitted. I had symptoms since late august 2012, finally diagnosed january 9th 2013. and late february, my husband started complaining about neck pain, everyday headaches, and one day he came home and was really confused, which I call the crazy head feeling. So I got him tested, and dr called me today and he is IGM positive with all three bands and also babesia with a cd57 of 105.. I will get a copy of the results tomorrow to see if he has any IGG bands and I will let you guys know.and like I mention in a previous post, my daughter has one band IGG and one band IGM, and she is receiving treatment, and she's doing very good so far. so, please always keep in mind, this can be spread through sex,WE ARE THE LIVING PROOF! hello CDC

I would like to add my story and another perspective:


I was in a relationship for 7 years and my partner did not get lyme's disease. He was tested recently (after we separated) by an LLND (the same one that diagnosed me). And,( sorry for TMI!) but we did not use condoms.

My doctors have not been concerned about me passing it on (and I asked because I am now single). One doctor remarked that it is really the state of the immune system of the other person.

I also think it highly unlikelly to be transmitted from female to male.

One final thought: Dr. J of Hansa (and I believe I have read elsewhere) states that people can have the lyme bacteria (get bitten by the infected tick) and never manifest symptoms of the disease.

This is due to the fact that it cannot replicate/reproduce in a non-conducive environment . (i.e. healthy body).

Also this underlies the treatment theory at Hansa: The body was sick BEFORE the tick bite. Or BEFORE the onset of symptoms. Get the body back into a state of health and there will be no dis-ease. I realize this may seem like a radical theory....but i want to put it out there for the sake of info. It is the theory that I subscribe to.

Also NOT saying that lyme CANNOT be tranmitted sexually.

However, you can be bitten by a tick and never know it. So might be hard to prove whether the partner got it from sex or a bite. I understand there are families where only one member gets sick. Others where the whole family does.

Both my docs have also said it would be fine for me to get pregnant...not worried about it getting passed on . I think due to being under care (the lyme is not active) and that I am doing so well now.

Me dr is convinced that there is a significant risk of sexually transmitting the disease to your partner. He tests the partners of his patients, just to be sure. My husbands sperm was PCR tested for Bartonella (to make sure I wouldn't get reinfected by him once I'm cured), it came back negative, luckely... but now there's lyme also, so it's getting complicated.

I can see how you may have transmitted Lyme, but if he is positive for Babesia, that doesn't make sense at all. It can only be transmitted through blood or tick bite, possibly mosquitoes, etc. Do you live in a wooded area? Pets?

nan777 makes a good point. I'm learning that the MTHFR mutation seems to be very common in us lymies. I'm heterozygous for C.

nan777, any info on this specifically? It's my understanding that it could be a predisposition because we are unable to fight off the infection properly and it can manifest and spread. Am I getting it right? My LLMD explained that with this mutation a person cannot detox properly. He also mentioned that 40% of the population has the mutation, but they all don't feel like I do (his words), so in my case there must be a link. I'm still researching/learning about this stuff, and my brain is mush tonight. I'm very scatterbrained, sorry for the weird wording.

There is scientific proof that Lyme spirochetes have been found in semen, so we all need to be careful.

I knew it!!! I gave lyme to my husband

My understanding is that it is in both male and female excretions and in your mouth so why couldn't a woman give it to a man. My hubby seems to be having symptoms for 5 yrs now, getting checked next week. I have been infected 15 yrs.

I've been in treatment now since November and hope he isn't reinfecting me.

Also the study I read said it's MORE often found in vaginal secretions then semen. If I had to guess I wonder if it's a ph thing, semen is alkaline and vaginal secretions are more acidic.... Lyme dislikes alkalosis

No tests are really being done on the co-infections for any purpose. It's always best to assume that they can be though.

I'm more than interested in those pictures... My boyfriend has Lyme disease and I definitely don't want to rule out the fact that I could have it now, and some symptoms are pointing in that direction:/ I am just trying to gather as much info as possible, and I don't want to go in anywhere and have them think I'm crazy! I just want to get to the bottom of this, and I hope I don't have it because that's a whole new problem, it's hard enough to fix one person! But it can't be ignored either.. Thanks for your help !

Lyme is sexually transmitted. Semen has sugar content that helps bacteria to survive and the immune system isn't very active there. Since I am a biologist I tested it myself, stained the fresh sample with Giesma stain, which stained bacteria bright pink. I observed all forms of the bacteria: spirochetes, L forms, cysts, granula, giant forms, film, while taking abx the bacteria tend to transform into the cystic form, and L forms tend to be present in extremely large numbers. I have some pics to prove it if anyone's interested.
I also tested tears and sure enough found them there in all possible forms. It seems that the bacteria is always waiting to transform into a different form depending on the environment they find themselves in.
