How important is dark urine as a symptom?

In the past week my son has had extremely dark brown urine a couple of times. It doesn't happen every time, and it has just started. I believe it can be a symptom of Babesia. He was tested but it was negative and I don't trust the results. Is dark urine a symptom that is only particular to Babesia?

Hi Ksgirl,

he's not taking Rifampicin is he? (just to be sure, I can't remember, sorry, I thought he was just on Doxy?). He is not taking B-complex vitamins either?

It can be caused by too much billlirubin in his urine, I would get the dr check it.

Let us know the results please!

He's only on Flagyl right now. Was on Doxy the month of February. No B-complex vitamins either.
Seeing doctor next Friday and will ask.

My Rifampin also caused a temporary dark brown discharge. For me, it had a slightly orange tint to it making it different than one caused by overexertion, dehydration or a breakdown in muscle.

Its important you get this checked immediately. Its also important that you ensure its not just simple dehydration too.

Do you think we can wait a week? He's drinking 2 liters of water daily, can't be dehydration.

Things like this can be checked by your regular doctor and don't have to wait for the LLMD. The test and results are done while at the doctor's office and it only takes a few minutes to complete.

That can be a sign of severe dehydration. Is he drinking enough? I get that when I have bad diarrhea.

Maine, flank is exactly where? I think I've only heard it in relation to horses, lol!
