Can someone tell me what the difference is between a dry sauna and an infrared sauna?
Our gym has a dry sauna but they said it is not infrared. Would this still be an effective detoxing method?
My LLMD seemed very much in favor of using infrared saunas but I just don't know where I would have access to one unless we had one put in our home (which I'm not ready to do at this point).
Any input would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Charity

Supposedly, the infrared can penetrate much deeper into the tissues. However I am quite lean so when I hear that dry heat can penetrate 4 inches deep...that pretty much covers my entire body.
I always see lots of saunas on craigslist for cheap....:)

We purchased a dry, infrared sauna for $600. We bought it for my husband to detox. It takes about
30 minutes to heat and while it works, he finds the waiting time frustrating and so often takes a detox bath instead.
I would not recommend buying one unless you have a big enough house to have a separate area for it; ours is the elephant in our bedroom.
When he does use it, he feels better though.

I'm not sure what a dry sauna is, but infrared is used by many Lyme patients. There are several types, so you don't have to get the walk in types that take up more room in your house. There are some that you can lay down in, then they can be made smaller when you're done. Infrared does penetrate deeper. It loosens up congestion in my lungs. I use a Biomat, which is a mat that you lay on. My daughter and I can't tolerate the heat around our heads in an enclosed area, so that's why I went with the mats. Some people prefer to have heat around their whole body and get one of the more compact types.

I found a local day-spa that charges $25 for a 1/2 hour session, or 10 sessions for $199
I think I am going to give it am try before investing in an infrared sauna myself
