Surgery while treating LD

Man, sometimes when it rains, it pours. Huh...?

I found out yesterday that on my CT scan they found a mucocele of the appendix, which is a tubular fluid filled structure. It can be benign or malignant, but since I do not have symptoms I'm thinking its benign (also putting that out into the universe.), it IS benign.

Because of its size it WILL have to be removed... That, and my appendix.

I started treatment for LD a couple weeks ago, I'm having some good days here and there and feel I'm on the right track.

Has anyone had a surgery while treating Lyme? Can I do both?

I have to get this thing out.

Ugh, I'm so frustrated. How did I get to this place with my health.
I can't stop crying today. I feel like such a child lately... It's like I just want my mom to hold my hand through each step and tell me it's all going to be okay. Welcome to the reality of adulthood, I guess.

First of all, I'm so very sorry that you have to have surgery. I have not had to go through surgery while in treatment, only before I started treatments. If they are able to do the surgery laparoscopically it will mean less stress, less healing time and better for you to get past - but expect it to take extra time to recover, and for your symptoms to flare. Remember, surgery is a lot of stress on the body, even if it is fairly common place today.

Please be sure to keep us up to date on how you are doing and what the schedule will be for your surgery!

I had four finger tendon severed and re-attached in my right hand a few years ago while on IV. Then last May I had elective surgery to repair a hernia. No issues with either procedure or recovery.

My daughter had her appendix taken out before her Lyme diagnosis and I was sure worried when she went through those doors to the operating room, but she came out of it fine. She had been ill for several years before that.

Hi Delmar. I'm sorry to hear that you need surgery and that you are having a difficult time. Dave had his 5 (yes, 5) wisdom teeth removed while on meds, and antibiotics for Lyme. One tooth was also encapsulated in a tumor, which was benign as yours will be.

The only issue was keeping track of Lyme meds. and surgery meds. I made a list with times and amounts. He woke on the third morning with heart palpitations after spending a long time in the bathroom.

He asked me to call ambulance and he was transported. Only thing Doctor determined is that he passed a kidney stone. He wasn't in a huge amount of pain because of all of the medications. He's fine now and if it can be taken into consideration, the pain-killers were the silver lining in this situation.

Oh Delmar,

So sorry to hear about this, I'm glad whatever it is that they caught it, things can get iffy with the appendix sometimes. I would address your concerns with the dr, try to go for the least invasive surgery possible. With some of the latest technology surgery that used to leave you in the hospital for days is an in/out procedure. I hope the same is true with this.

Ii'm sure no matter what it is a hurdle that you can jump!
