Cholestyramine Side Effects?

Just curious for those of you who have taken Cholestyramine...what side effects did you have, if any at all?

Hi dmarie,

The only thing I've read up on (though I have never personally taken cholestyramine) is that many need to start up slow on it and work their way up. As it is absorbing toxins and getting them out of your body some experience a herx reaction or increased herxing. Hopefully someone that has used it will see this post and chime in.

Are you experiencing anything concerning while using it or just curious?

I am supposed to start that, it's waiting at the pharmacy for me. It can cause deficiencies because it takes all your vitamins and nutrients with it, constipation is a side effect.

I've been taking it about 3 weeks, and so far the only "side effect" I've had is constipation.

I've also had what seems to be an intensification of original symptoms. I wasn't sure so I tested it...went off for a week and things went back to normal. Then I started up again and within 2 days I had a major intensification again.

Does that sound normal?

It's supposed to decrease symptoms that are from endo toxins, and bio toxins.... Ultimately. I dont know how long it takes to see improvement.

Dmarie,

I am so sorry to interfere in this post, but I saw one of your posts on non stop silent belching.
I read your symptoms, and I have them too ... and me too... do not know the answer as to what casued my belching and why it doesnot stop at all...

I am replying on this post as I see you active here . ...
please consider my query with sympathy, and do reply me if your belching problem stopped at all... if yes ... what did you do to stop it...

please I will be glad if you reply on this ...

Regarding cholestyramine -

I have severe gastro problems, including cramping, gas and bloating. Minutes after taking the cholestyramine prescribed by my LLMD, I had such severe cramping and bloating that I had to stop taking it (I was OK with stopping - I know it's prescribed for high cholesterol but my LLMD prescribed it to switch up my detox binder and since there are many other binders out there I didn't really need to take it).

I've taken cholestyramine for about a month, 2x/day. In order to reduce any interactions with other meds & supplements, I took it first thing in the morning and right at bedtime every day. To prevent constipation, I always took it mixed in 1/2 cup of prune juice. During the month I took it, I had a bloated belly, but I couldn't prove what exactly was causing that symptom.

I never did link it to an increase of my original symptoms.

Pirouette what other binders are there and outside of activated charcoal are there any other ones for mold?

I now use bentonite clay. It's not as convenient as popping a couple of capsules (has to be mixed with a liquid) but there is no taste or fuss.

I am not certain if there is a binder specific for mold. You might peruse Dr. Shoemaker's website, which has the best consolidated mold info I've found:

I just wanted to report on Cholestyramine. I have been on it for six days now and it REALLY helps me detox! I wish I was put on it right at the beginning. Two days ago I started to take Purify to address Protomyxzoa which makes me herx like crazy and if I take Cholestyramine about two hours after Purify I can literally feel the toxin level drop for the next four hours or so. It really helps me emotionally because I know that I will not feel awful for the next 2-3 months while I am killing Protomyxzoa.

BTW I can highly recommend Purify (by The Life Tree) as a parasite treatment. Worked the first day and my colonic therapist could see a nest of dead parasites the next day! Sorry for the TMI, I am only saying this hoping it will help someone.
