anyone experienced hair loss? any advice or recommendations on what to take?

Could be high metal levels or low thyroid function.

Check out stopthethyroidmadness.com website for info on thyroid and symptoms. It has the most comprehensive info on thyroid I have found. Much of it is not understood by most of the doctors practicing medicine - even endocrinologists. There is confusion about testing and treatment so check it out, consider the other symptoms to see if they also match up and then talk w/ your doctor (or better yet - go see a naturopathic doctor, who are generally more current on thyroid issues).

In my experience, when my thyroid was off - even a little - my hair falls out in clumps. I've lost all the hair on my arms and legs, eyebrows, and elsewhere. I'm on a very low dosage of Naturethroid, a desiccated pig thyroid replacement, and hair has stopped falling out. Probably won't grow back until I solve the lyme & co and whatever else is wrong with me. ;)

Vitamin B12 deficiency can also cause hair loss.

Biotin can help counter hair loss that's a side-effect of certain medications.

i have hashimotos thyroiditis so it is a double whammy. my hair falls out even when taking cytomel t3 which is the active thyroid hormone. thickening shampoos conditioners dont really help :/

razzle - thanks , i plan to take vitamin b12 (methyl form), and biotin? how much should i take by pill?

You know the whole story about your particular case but you might want to look at other alternative thyroid meds?

Make sure you are getting at least the RDA, which I think is 300mcg. If that doesn't help, increase the dose.

I've taken as much as 8,000mcg at a time, sometimes more than once a day, for dealing with Candida, so large doses are ok for short times.

razzle- u have candida too?! i think i have thoes issues. i should take BIOTIN RDA 300 mcg? sorry just need to clarify, lol.

I had horrible hair loss when I got I'll. my Llmd prescribed testosterone cream for muscle fatigue and memory after finding out my t was very low. My hair is all coming back!!

BTW - I have huge candida issues, but my hair stopped falling out only when I got thyroid meds resolved. Still have the candida issues as I only started treating them.

I have lost over a third of my hair in the last few years...daily in the shower clumps fall out like a cancer patient. I used to have beautiful thick hair(that I obviously took for granted), and now it's thin.
All this time I never knew it could be from my lyme. Interestingly enough since this reinfection, my thyroid came back a low normal which my doctor said was normal in her world. But however that is the first time my thyroid ever came back as anything but normal. yes I am getting a new doctor! I am about to go rogue and start eating grass and garlic all day long so fed up with our medical system.

Yes, get a new doctor. ;) (my previous 3 doctors didn't test correctly and didn't understand what the "low normal" meant, so I went for 10 yrs without treatment--thyroid is just one example of the physical and physiological change in my body over that 10 yrs, which is criminal, really...).

But also, do familiarize yourself with stopthethyroidmadness.com website---it will be critical to make sure your doctor can test correctly, interpret results correctly, and get you on the right path.

I am really hoping (and from what I read it is entirely likely) that at the end of the day, when my MTHFR pathways are clear, my lyme & co. issues are healed that my thyroid problems disappear.

Mold can cause hair loss and so can low progesterone. I have tried rubbing castor oil into my scalp. It supposedly helps. IDK we shall see!

Two more things to check out with symptoms that may point to thyroid:

1) adrenal insufficiency is really the root of all thyroid evil (but conventional medicine can't "treat" adrenals so it focuses on thyroid" so a simple (although not inexpensive) saliva test can help clue you into adrenal/cortisol issues.

2) and estrogen overload or problems detoxing can also disrupt thyroid function.
