Treating Babesia first - a must do?

I have read that if you have untreated Babesia, that Borellia (sp?) may not respond to treatment. My ND believes that and wants to treat Babesia first...then Lyme.
But I have read in different posts that people have been treated for Lyme, and then Babesia symptoms after.

My symptoms aren't obvious Babesia....but I could have it...and we're not testing for it.
We are doing the WB for lyme...and then she wants to treat my Babesia first - based on symptoms I have. So, I will do Mepron and Byron White together.

I was thinking I wanted to treat the lyme first...and see if I got a response...and if I started to feel better...then maybe I wouldn't even need Babesia treatment.
Also - I have read that Lyme treatments also can treat co-infections - except for babesia. I'm thinking I could have bartonella...

My LLND believes I have Babesia too. She is treating me for that first but I just found out the remedy for that also contains a few herbs that also kill Lyme. My understanding was that you should work on the co-infections first then go after the Lyme.

Yes, I have read that Babesia especially has to be treated first. But, I will be doing the pharmaceutical along with natural...so that means Mepron...and I've read it can be hard on the body - worse than abx...so i really want to go about this intelligently.

Summersun- what are your Babesia symptoms?

I'm not sure if i do have them, as my night sweats aren't drenching me...and they have calmed down a lot. Also not sure if I really have air hunger...I do have to consciously take deep breaths during the day...but don't know if that is considered air hunger.

I treated for Lyme disease first then in the midst of that I started treating for Bart and now Babesia.

everyone is different and I just say go with your gut instinct.

Here are the Babesia symptoms I was experiencing. I am happy to report that they have been a lot better lately!! I would say the muscle aches, rib pain, and the feeling of imbalance are the worst for me and still bother me, but not nearly as much as a few months ago. When this all started I would be out of breath just walking up a flight of stairs.

-irritability
-anxiety
-loss of concentration
-malaise
-sweats
-Inflammation
-Symptoms flare
every 4 to 6 days.
-neck and
back stiffness
-muscle aches
-joint pain
- weakness

-feeling of
imbalance
-Severe chest
wall pain
-Random
stabbing pains

-air hunger, -shortness of breath
-dry cough
-Pressure in chest
-rib pain
-unrelenting fatigue
-Disruptive sleep -frequent waking
-insomnia

-Sudden itching
-lumps in tissues
-petechiae

How much of an improvement have you noticed so far?

I'm taking Beyond Balance MC-BAB-2.

Oh, I forgot to mention one really weird symptom. I often bite the inside of my cheeks while eating. I read somewhere that is a symptom of Babesia. So bizzare.

Here is a list of symptoms of babesia: Abdominal pain, air hunger, anemia, back
stiffness, chills, cough, depression, diarrhea, emotion liability, encephalopathy, fatigue, tiredness, poor stamina. fevers, headaches, hemolysis, enlarged liver,
imbalance without true vertigo, joint stiffness, joint pain or swelling, malaise(generalized ill feeling) muscle pain or cramps, myalgias, nausea, vomiting, neck stiffness, pain, night sweats, poor appetite, shaking chills, shortness of breath, splenomegaly, unexplained fevers, sweats, chills or flushing, urine dark or with blood, weakness, weight loss. Hope that helps, I had a lot of back stiffness, flushing, the worst probably was the shaking chills....

I treated the lyme first. In general, I think most drs agree to treat co-infections first or focus on them rather. Lyme was my dominant infection though-once that was under control it was a lot easier to treat the bart and babs. I think I am rare perhaps in that regards.

I was on a lot of dual drugs though. Doxy treats all three, minimal for some but still partially effective. So does Biaxin. A lot of stuff that you might be taking might be dual or triple combat. I agree with what another poster said - go with your gut!

Can't go with my gut - because it keeps changing - hour to hour, day to day.

The ONLY reason i don't want to treat Babesia first is because the Mepron looks like it could be very hard on the body - worse than the abx. And if i end up not having Babesia, then it was all for not...and I won't get any improvement.

But, if we treat Lyme first, we may resolve some symptoms of Lyme, or co-infections within a few months (being optimistic...).

My understanding is that the anti-malarial drugs for Babesia work better if you're on abx. I have found this to be true.

By anti-malarial drugs, I mean Malarone and Hydroxychloriquine, which are not abx.

I always figured to treat bartonella first, since it supresses the immune system so heavily. If you have babesia and lyme, it is highly likely you have bartonella. If babesia symptoms are severe, though, it could be a good option to treat babesia first.

On the other hand... Buhner says, basically, to treat it all at once.
