I'm 9 days into treatment and my tummy is NOT happy. I've been nauseous and have really bad reflux every day. Any ideas how to relieve these issues?

I have been taking Zantac, but that is barley controlling the reflux. I still need to take Tums too.

Meds are, Minocycline, Rifampin and Plaquenil.

Minocycline was one of the abx when I started Lyme treatment, it was combined with Azythromycine and Plaquenil.

It was very hard on my digestive system. I tried for about a month, lost 7 kilos because of the nausea and constant diarrhea. I thought I had to be tough and continue (I was new to treatment, didn't know a thing about it), but I couldn't go on anymore and called my doctor. He immediatly changed my protocol.

If you have the possibility to call or email your doctor, do so. He might consider it necessary to adjust your protocol.

Don't take Tums with Minocycline. Probiotics would help. A lot of stomach reflux is aluminum toxicity.

That's a pretty potent combo to start all at once. Its always best to phase in any new scripts to better gauge your reactions and let your body adjust for a week or so before adding another Rx. You might want to stop the Rifampin for a week, and if things calm down slowly add it back in at a half dose for another week then go to full dose.

Also try Ginger Root capsules or activated charcoal, and look into other herbal remedies for an upset stomach. I would stay away for taking more drugs and over the counter crap.

I have to take antacids every 4 hours. I take the Costco acid controller and they are very helpful.
Space them 2 hours before or after your antibiotics, and make sure you take them before you eat.

Aloe and - believe it or not - a spoonful of mustard can help with reflux symptoms. Make sure with all those antibiotics you're taking a good quality probiotic (just not at the same time!).

I've been dealing with GERD/reflux a lot lately - things that help in general are eating small, regular meals (I shoot for never actually letting myself get fully hungry) - eating breakfast early enough, stopping snacking early enough, no alcohol, less sugar, etc.

Ginger should help with the nausea somewhat. I'm sorry you're feeling so crummy!

Are you eating just before taking your abx? We take high doses of meds and many times, our stomach will pay the price. Even though many abx say to take on an empty stomach, they aren't taking into consideration the large dose and that usually the only thing eating will do is slow the absorption. If you have any questions about eating before using any abx, there are sites online that you can check into or you can call your doctor - although many doctors don't think a thing about these issues.

There is no need to suffer through this!!!

Ginger tea is one of the best remedies for nausea!!!

Tums are not good - aluminum in them (unless they've changed them in the past few years) if you need a chewable antacid take a good quality chewable Calcium (I have a Calcium/Mag that is chewable).

I talked to the dr. He ordered something I can't remember the name of. He also suggested ginger tea. He said I can eat something small before taking meds.

Can I use fresh ginger in hot water for the tea? I have some ginger in the freezer.

I'm on 2 different pro-biotics the dr gave me.

Now, I have a yeast infection (sorry guys). Are we having fun yet? (sarcasm)

Can someone stop this merry-go-round, I want OFF! (more sarcasm)

How do you handle the sun on meds? I'm going on vacation next month and will be in the sun every day for most of the day.

Fresh juice of cabbage also help the GI tract I found instant relief juicing cabbage I also added cucumber (I found this tip in Buhner's website). Best to drink early in the morning.

Yes you can use fresh ginger

I know this is horrible I also experienced yeast infection, I can't remember having one in a while. My doctor gave me a cream it went away in few day.

I also take Aloe, probiotics.

You also can try one teaspoon of apple cider and half glass of water to drink before or after meals.

these are good tips that I'll be using for my son now too.
at his appt. about ten days ago the dr. thought maybe he had a yeast issue b/c of his tummy aches and sore throats (more tummy than sore throats), so prescribed fluconazole.
well, long story short is I just wanted to give him a break from the abx, so he's been off for 8 days and he has hardly had a tummy ache at all (maybe two in that time, vs. one to two a day) and no sore throats, and so much less gas, and no more burping. I hope it wasn't the wrong thing to do, to keep him off the abx for this time, but I felt like after 16 weeks and all these tummy aches, giving his body a short break.
now as he goes back on the abx, I'll try these remedy ideas too, such as Aloe, cabbage and cucumber juice, eating with his abx, and also we got a new probiotic with that sach. B.,

Thank you so much for all the wonderful advice everyone.

I will pick up Aloe juice today and can't wait to make the ginger tea. I like the taste of ginger. I have been dealing with reflux for 30 years, I just never slowed down long enough to find other remedies for it. Always looking for the "quick fix" to move on. I think now is the time to take life a little slower.

The reflux is not going away! It's very severe.

I tried the aloe juice, it's not working. I don't like the taste of cabbage, so cabbage juice isn't going to work for me. I'll try the vinegar next, but a this point, I don't hold much hope for it.

I tried the ginger tea and it has help with the nausea. I made it way too strong the first time. It burned my stomach, mouth and esophagus. Opps! Live and learn:)

I used to use apple cider vinegar with baking soda for severe acid reflux and it worked to get it under control. Check out the Earth Clinic site for ideas on how to use this. Best wishes.
