Hi everyone,

I'm trying to get a better understand of what my results mean. I had a short phone call with my LLMD then received the results in the mail. I have a follow up on the 9th, but am antsy to know if what I have is in fact Lyme. I've had symptoms for 8 months.

Most notable symptoms = Extreme fatigue after walking short distances, constant woozy/lightheaded feeling, vision feels very strange and uncomfortable (almost dreamlike), nausea, skin peeling & hives on hands, and frequent headaches.

IGenex Result: Positive
CDC/NYS Results: Negative

31: ++
39: IND
41: IND
83-93: +

IgG
IGenex Result: Negative
CDC/NYS Results: Negative

Any thoughts would be very helpful,

Hi Steve,

A lyme doctor will treat this as a positive for lyme infection. It isn't a strong positive but the test are not always that great. I didn't start testing positive until I had been on antibiotics for awhile.

Glad to hear your follow up isn't too far away! In the meantime, for symptom relief I would recommend checking out our "New to Lyme, Start Here" thread. Lots of information there on detoxing, symptoms etc.

There are a lot of helpful members on this site so feel free to ask questions!

Thanks for the quick reply Beth. I guess I'm most worried about these being false positives somehow. Does that happen frequently? Also I'm not sure what to make of the IND results. I've been searching for answers for so long, that I no longer really trust any diagnosis or doctor. Hearing things like "The test are not always that great" makes me feel a little uneasy, but I'm still hopeful. Although, I was hoping the results would be a bit more definitive/accurate.

Also, if somehow this isn't Lyme, i'm worried that taking large quantities of antibiotics can be harmful if it's not actually treating what is making me sick. Is this a valid fear?

Steve- I agree with Beth that while it's not a strong positive it still will be viewed by your doc as positive. I've read many Western Blots and few get strong positives so most are like yours. I too had frequent headaches but have subsided with herbal treatment and have had the walking a few blocks feeling like you just ran a marathon symptom as well. That one came out while I was on the herbal treatment as a herx or die-off reaction. In fact you don't have to go the antibiotic route if you don't want though most do. Other options are herbs, essential oils, ozone therapy, bee venom injections, etc. Many also combine those with abx. Whatever path you choose best of luck to you.
