Rifampin and alcohol

Hi guys, I'm on Rifampin 1200 mg a day, and am starting the Cowden protocol. There's quite a bit of herbs to take, and they're all in alcohol. I know Rifampin can't be taken with alcohol, but what about the small amount in the herbs? I need the Rifampin, and feel better when on the herbs, so I don't want to give up either. Is it ok to take them together?

I wouldn't worry about such a small amount of alcohol in tinctures. You could dilute the tincture in warm water and let it sit awhile to reduce alcohol concentration through evaporation.

I have not heard that Rifampin and alcohol cannot be taken together. I've read all warnings and contraindications on Rif, but never heard that one. Only Flagyl and Tindamax have a high risk of causing an antibuse reaction is SOME people (but not all).

With some medications my doctor advised even against using the alcohol in tinctures. So I would make tea, then put in my tinctures and let it sit for 5-10 minutes before drinking. I never had any issues.

I was on flagyl though and that IS one of the antibiotics that can make you throw up if you have alcohol.
