Stomach burning from antibiotics:(

Soooo.... This sucks! It seems like I cant handle antibiotics. I haven't even been on any that long. My PCP gave me small dosage of doxy for a month. I could only take it for two weeks because it gave me severe heartburn. I immediately saw LLMD and they told me to take a couple weeks off to heal before starting slow release antibiotics.

Now my stomach is burning slightly but constantly after only 6 days on the new abx! and my heart burn is still there but not as bad as when I was on doxy. I think the doxy really messed up my stomach and now I have a small ulcer. I will call my LLMD tomorrow and ask him what I should do. In the meantime I think I should stop my meds.

I am feeling really sad and discouraged. It looks like I might have to go the all natural route after my stomach heals.

The the good thing is I am feeling a lot better than I was 2 months ago!! I only have slight muscle twitching and muscle jerks. I am just so scared I will get worse again.

Thanks for listening everyone, I really need to vent. I am really scared I won't be able to get better because I can't handle a small dosage of antibiotics.

Anyone have similar stomach issues while on antibiotics? Is there hope for me?

so sorry to hear this!! maybe you should just forget the empty stomach rule and eat when you take the tetracycline anyway. Its worth a shot. If you don't regress, then that means enough of it is being absorbed. Just avoid dairy and iron products within 2 hrs of taking it.

Thanks Chapelle! I think I might take a long break before starting back up again. I think I am really messing up my stomach. Very frustrating.

Hi icurse,

The short time I took Doxy, I was sick to my stomach and saw the inside of my toilet more times then I wished! Yuck! That's when I switched to alternative medicine and I became well.

Traveler also had stomach problems from abx as well as others. And Traveler became well too!

I suggest reading some books (if reading doesn't cause you any agony) and learn about the different protocols available.

I personally like the books by Stephen Buhner and Dr. David Jernigan.

It's very common to have stomach issues. I couldn't tolerate Doxy (stomach pain and nausea) or Zithromax (vomiting). Some antibiotics don't bother my stomach though (currently I'm on Bactrim) and I'm also taking the Byron White formula.

Oh, also I always take my antibiotics with food, much easier to tolerate. And don't forget the probiotics to heal!

Icurseticks, I almost always have stomach issues as well. Doxy was always the worst! There are plenty of other good abx out there that aren't so strong. I hope you find one that works. Don't give up! Also, are you on good probiotic? I take one that is 100 billion strong shocked   It has made a big difference! I take it early in the morning and plenty of time before taking my abx. Good luck!

Thanks Lymerunner! I am gonna up my probiotics:) I talked to my Dr. today and he assured me there r more antibiotics out there to try that are easier on the stomach. It felt good to hear!

I agree to take with food it really made me feel sick to my stomach when I took as directed "on an empty stomach." Also, peppermint tea helped soothe my stomach or chamomile tea.

I just recently started Doxy and my LLMD told me to definitely take it with food. Even doing that I have a plethora of burping, belching, gasing, etc. I couldn't imagine taking it w/o anything. Best of luck!

I had something similar on doxy/ceftriaxone...my LLDM prescribed a med to help gallbladder not to be sluggish (common side effect of those meds.) Within a day or two gastric symptoms were gone. Hang in there! Personally, I was not very responsive to meds, so went a natural route instead per my LLMD and had great success within a few short months. You may consider Lee Cowden Lyme Protocol for natural approach - It addresses lyme and all co-infections, parasites, heavy metals - it's a one way shop for destroying lyme and other nasties! :) So happy to hear you are seeing improvement....as hard as it is feeling crummy, keep envisioning yourself getting stronger and healthier and before you know it that's exactly what you'll be.

You can buy them at whole foods or any organic supermarket in your area. I've seen them there before
