Looking for a LLMD in Maryland that takes insurance

I live in Baltimore but am willing to travel!

I have had Lyme disease symptoms for a few years. My more obnoxious symptoms lessened until recently. My PCP agreed it could be Lyme and I was tested in 2012. The test came back negative but it was a LabCorp ELISA test, which I understand can be unreliable. I was tested for many other things and never really got any answers.

So I want to get tested by an expert with a better test, if possible.

I know a lot of LLMDs don't accept insurance but I think I need to go this route to be able to afford it. I have CareFirst BlueChoice.

I looked through lymediseaseassociation.org but it seems none of the doctors I found accept insurance.

Please, if anyone can help me, I'd appreciate it so much! Thank you!

My dr in reading, pa takes insurance but that is a bit of a hike for you. I'll bump this and hope someone else knows someone!

Hi Chrizzy, Im approx 1.5 hours from you(B-more) and I honestly dont think there are any llmds that accept insurance in this proximity. I have done MUCH research when desperately looking for a lyme doc over the past months.

Please keep in mind though, your insurance will pay for the tests and your meds that the doc prescribes-this helps ALOT. You just have to pay for the office visit. The first initial visit is always higher and then the amount lessens on the following trips. My doc is about 30 mins from you. I cant post his name on here per forum rules but shoot me an email and I can give you some details :)

I have a good GP in Fairfax, Va that is Lyme literate and I feel lucky to have found her.Takes most insurance. If this is a possibility, let me know.

RTF, I added my email to my profile. I wouldn't mind traveling to Fairfax if it meant seeing a good doctor! I would appreciate it if you emailed me that information.

Orchid_rain, it's good to know about insurance covering tests and meds. I didn't know that! Thanks.

My LLMD is in Arlington, VA accepts insurance -- seems knowledgeable on co-infections and tackling everything with a well thought plan. I'm not sure if you'll be willing to travel.

I live in Maryland also but have not found a LLMD that accepts insurance. I have been to one in the Baltimore area and one in VA. Neither accept insurance Sorry I can't be more help.

I would like to get the names of the doctors who take insurance. I loved my original doc, but I just can't afford to see him now that he doesn't insurance.

so sorry for those who asked for the Arlington dr after 7/25....New med & prescription was changed or added to my treatment, so had been hell the past few months. I'm emailing all of you her info right now. Sorry for being so late.

in the lyme world you get what you pay for. any llmd worth their weight in salt won't accept insurance. if you find one then you're a lucky ducky cause any one i've run across that claims to be a good llmd and takes insurance, well isn't.

still if that's all you can afford then with the chuck meat is better than no meat at all ;)

Doesn't having a doctor that bills insurance like this tip off the insurance and risk you not getting medications and stuff covered?

does that make sense? I am so paranoid. I wouldn't mind the name of the one in Fairfax, but it looks like this post is old and I am not sure RTF will see this.

Right now I pay for my visits but insurance pays for my medications, so I don't see how insurance would stop paying for my medications because they don't know the reason why..?
