I saw my LLMD for the first time last Wed. I mentioned how my spine feels/sounds like a ratchet sometimes when I move. Like it goes, chink, chink, chink, and I can feel and hear each vertibrae move. He laughed at me. Said he never heard that before, and said it's just my 'age'. I'm 53.

I was so angry and offended that he just laughed my concern off, and threw it back onto me saying it's 'normal.'

Anyone else have this? Plus, there's pain that radiate through my spine, very hot, and my lower left side on my upper hip always hurts something fierce and is always getting 'dislodged'.

My spine started popping like crazy at the same time as my other symptoms started. I feel its definitely related.

So sorry you had that experience with that "professional". You should have been offended—and walked out of the office. If an LLMD has been treating lyme patients long enough, they hear all sorts of insane symptoms and shouldn't be surprised or indifferent.

That said, I presented quite a few puzzling sx to my LLMD and she seemed a little indifferent—but getting to know her a little better it was likely that the sx are what they are and her focus is the lyme & co. And with successful tx of the infection, it's likely the sx will be resolved.

My back sounds like a ratchet sometimes—but my neck much more so. It's a scary thing—you feel like something is going to get disjointed or misaligned or 'dislodged', as you say. I agree w/ Delmar—it's likely related to the infection. I've never gone to a chiropractor but I know some posters here have and hopefully they'll come along and make a recommendation.

One last thing, if you are in any way uncomfortable with your LLMD, I'd move on to someone more suitable. This treatment is so vast and complicated you really need to be able to establish a reliable, trusting and open relationship with your LLMD.

I've had so many doctors say, I've never heard of that before. It drives me over the edge. My whole life, I've had bizzare stuff happen, that no one can explain. I'm guessing maybe it's been lyme at work for longer than I thought.

I just started with this dr., so I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

In every other way, he was on top of things, personable, and provided me with some choices for my treatment! I just was thrown a loop with his attitude about this symptom.

I've been to the other LLMD in my 'area' that is also 1.5 hrs away, and they are not an option. According to that dr, I was 'just depressed, and celexa would take all my symptoms away.' LOL .... NEXT!

So, I'll stick it out with this one, and see how things go. I'll continue researching, logging my health, and see him in 6 wks for my Vit C IV, and the next stage of treatment.

Getting the doxy in me as really helped with the inflamation in my body/brain, and MOST of the psych and pain symptoms have really started to abate.

For now, I am right where I am to be. It's amazing how a little bit of antibiotics can have such an significant, and positive effect on my body/mind! After all these years, I finally have hope that I'll not only get better, but be better than I've ever been in my life!!! AFter all these years of suffering, and having lost sooo much from suffering with this illness, I have CHANGED for the BETTER inside of myself!!

Only time will tell how far this experience will take me in this lifetime, and all the GOOD that is coming out from all of this suffering!!! I am finally feeling excitement again!

Sorry to hear of your struggles, Louise74. This illness certainly is a thief. Hang in there and I pray you get all the relief and healing needed for a bright present and future!

My back cracks/pops and does the ratchet thing when I turn in one direction.
This all started after Lyme symptoms...so I'm not thinking that all of a sudden there's also something wrong with my back. There are just so many symptoms I have...that I just have to believe that the majority, if not at all, are lyme related...or I'd go crazy.

As treatment continues, we will start to have some symptoms abate...and that will be wonderful!!!

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with your LLMD. I do hope it gets better and they provide you with the treatment and care that you need.

I can say that I experience the same thing. I'm 26 and have experienced it since I was 10 years old (when I was bitten/EM rash, and had unsuccessful treatment). All these years people have laughed at me too and made me feel crazy, because I'm "too young" to feel like this. We know we shouldn't feel like this! It's so frustrating to not get the response you're hoping for. But I can completely relate and for me, I know it's from my Lyme.

Wow. I am soooo sorry you deal with this, and all the people's responses.

The next thing that doc said was, "Well, you're getting older, so it's just stuff we have to deal with. Heck, I'm older than you!"

A hole. Still, giving him the benefit of the doubt, and will see how things go. BUT, I will NOT let anything like this go by again. NEVER. I won't stand for it.

I hope you also get everything needed for a successful healing and full life!!

I hate it when they say it's part of aging. I disagree entirely. I was healthy, active, running, playing tennis, very limber. Then last spring/summer I became unwell - and the symptoms started piling on top of each other.
I'm not buying the aging explanation at all. Usually you age gradually. My mid back was locking up everytime I bent over a few months ago...lasted two weeks, then gone. Came back again a couple weeks ago. Too bizarre for it to be aging...and I definitely didn't do anything to cause it.
I guess we will see once we're succesfully treated what symptoms are left over...and if we can attribute any of them to aging.

I'm sorry that you're going through it as well! I obviously don't believe that it's related to aging for you either! You're too young to feel like that as well! And you have Lyme! As far as I'm aware, it's very common in Lyme patients.
You are kind for giving him the benefit of the doubt, but good for you for deciding that enough is enough. You know how you are feeling, and those feelings aren't in your head or simply due to "aging," and those feelings need to be validated- especially by your doctor (and especially by a Lyme Literate doctor)!

Thank you for your kind words. I've been dealing with this for 16 years but didn't know what it was until about 2 months ago. My first appointment with a lyme literate doctor is actually in an hour and a half, so wish me well! I'm so happy, and so nervous.

Have you gone to the chiropractor at all? While I do have lyme I do have to be careful not to box everything in as lyme. Had neck MRIs that were normal, but chiropractor thinks I have a fractured vertebra, that could be causing some of the issues - not all the issues.. Who knows what to believe, everyone wants their money. With lyme you can't really leave any stones unturned.

I have been to the chiro, but this is different from everything I've experienced, and the chiro work doesn't even touch this.

I tend to believe it's due to inflammation. I really have no idea. But, at times the pain is intolerable.

I have been to the chiro as well, and can tell the difference between an injury/overuse and the constant migratory pain.

Thanks so much, Breaking Free. I feel really good about my appointment. It was emotionally taxing to hear her confirm chronic lyme and what treatment will look like and what all this means for starting a family some day (this is the biggest one for me), but I had mentally prepared myself pretty well for that all, so it was nice to have validation and get the ball rolling on a game plan!!
