Lyme and surgery please help

I went to the ER last night. I was having horrible lower abdominal pain. Doctor thinks I twisted an ovary, but it untwisted before I arrived. They did a CT scan and found I have tumors on both ovaries, a lesion on my tailbone and a small mass in one of my kidneys. The ER Doctor recommended having a hysterectomy. Today I'm a bit of a mess. I have so many follow up with different Doctors now. Needless to say, my stress level has gone through the roof.

My main question is, how to handle Lyme and surgery? What do I tell the Doctors? What meds do I need to avoid? And any other questions I'm forgetting. Will surgery make Lyme worse? Should stop Lyme treatment for now?

Wow, that's a lot to cope with -- especially on top of Lyme.

Let's see. It would be a good idea to have all your doctors be in communication with your Lyme Literate Doctor.

You must never take steroids.

As a Lyme patient, it will take you longer to heal. The physical stress of the surgery might cause your symptoms to flare.

You might have to take a short break in your treatment when you get the surgery, but that shouldn't set you back too much.

My heart goes out to you. I hope things improve for you.

Sorry to hear of your diagnosis and upcoming surgeries. I had a couple of surgeries with Lyme -- one was a hysterectomy -- when it was at it's height before I was diagnosed and treated. I think the main thing is to work on keeping your emotions in check because you will be so much sicker with heightened stress. I felt better after surgery, so maybe focus on that with optimism. As for the rest of it, I too, look forward to others' feedback.

Ooh, I'm so sorry Mom of 2 - that is a lot of bad news to get through... sad

Are they going to do an MRI for your kidney and tailbone?

I would inform the doctors about the Lyme and contact your LLMD asap to explain him the situation. They should communicate with eachother.

The anaesthesia might take a little longer to recover from. That is what I experienced. I had a spacey feeling for a while... and it can take longer for you to heal.
Like Achievinggrace, I think it would be better to take a break in your Lyme treatment...

A lot of herbal remedies and some Rx's for lyme and co's should be stopped two or more weeks before surgery. Some of these thin the blood and my add risk to the procedures.

I think you are supposed to request anesthesia without epinephrine. Maybe research that, I read it somewhere.

I'm so very sorry you got that news. That is a lot to deal with and came on suddenly. Do the best you can to keep the stress down. We're here for you, so stay in touch when you can. I wish you the best!!

I'm going to copy and paste all of this onto a doc. This way I'll have it on hand at all times.

I'll will definitely research the epinephrine.

I already had an appointment set up with my GYN before this happened. I called today to see if she wanted to see me sooner per the ER Doctor's request. She has all reports because she is part of the same group. I was told that my original appointment is fine, I don't need to come in sooner. It's not till Sept 18, but I'll take that as a good sign:)

Really sorry to hear all that you are dealing with. But, what a wonderful blessing to have found stuff that needed found!!! Wow, amazing.

I also had a hysterectomy while in year 6 of a 14 yr undiagnosed chronic l/co. What others are saying about the anesthesia is well warranted. I remember clearly that when I was coming out I was not breathing right. Please make certain that everyone in the OR is aware of your l/co. Especially with any issue with breathing. I wish I would have had oxygen while I was coming out of the anesthesia. I think that might have helped.

Hang in there, I hope others are able to step up from now until when you are up and strong enough again. You will be in my thoughts.

Try to take one moment at a time. And, rest all that you are able.

I've spent most of the day researching as much as I can find. It's starting to look like I will be losing my tailbone too.

You know, I thought I paid my humiliation dues when I gave birth to my children. Boy, was I wrong. LOL I'm painfully modest so this will be an experience.

I'm sorry to read this. That is a lot to take on but you'll get through it.
I also had to have a surgery after one month of lyme treatment, it was an appendectomy to remove what they thought was a mucocele of the appendix (which can be malignant).
You definitely want to keep treating the lyme. You'll want to tell your LLMD so he/she can talk to the surgeon and get you on IV abx during the procedure and while in the hospital, if you're not already. Surgery is going to make lyme symptoms worse, but it will get better - just keep treating.
Keep us posted on everything. Ill be saying a few prayers for you.

I was actually wondering the same thing; I have a wisdom teeth surgery coming up soon and didn't know how I'd handle it. I was reluctant to choose anesthesia because I know my brain fog/dissociation is bad enough. and I need epinephrine-free stuff because it gives me panic attacks. I've noticed my body heals a lot slower than before, so I'm worried about that as well. good luck with your surgery and aftercare. <3
