Looks like Lyme is now even lower priority.

Its just weird that they took such precaution to fly home the sick Americans but they didn't impose travel sanctions for people in the ebola epicenters. All this considering the whole Ebola outbreak originally started with air travel as well in that region.

I just think, okay its a virus...so all virus's have to run their course essentially. But we know how easily the common cold virus spreads. Only this is a crazy african hardcore virus that kills over half the people who get it! The CDC says its not airborne so its not as easily spread as cold/flu, but you can get if you touch the same surfaces as a person sick with virus. IMO, who knows how really contagious and "viral" it could go though. We all know the "CDC" has such great credibility with their info....actually I think *WE* KNOW BEST about their credibility!

I hope they can keep it contained and nip it in the bud, but I cant help to think--who on the plane did this person have contact with!? Whomever they had contact with...where are they and what have they touched or sneezed on, etc!

Seriously, if this thing does get out....you might as well stick a fork in us lymies because we will be done...or I will put a bubble around my dang house or something :-/

I would think the way it spreads is very similar to the stomach virus. that's not an airborne virus but a bodily fluid one. We all see what happens when one person on a cruise ship gets sick. all it takes is one person vomiting or having diarrhea in close contact with others, and it spreads pretty quickly.

I would actually say the reverse, we have tons of heavily crowded areas like trains and subways and things like that, with people always on the go, we have millions of people constantly shuffling through these areas each day. I think it would be harder to stop it here.

I agree with the fact that it would be harder to control the spread here in the U.S because most of the people live and socialize in close proximity to others. In addition, public transportation is very common and used my millions of people so it would be fairly easy to get infected.

I ride public transportation and I can tell you first hand that it is a moving petri dish. So many people coughing , sneezing and wheezing that you just know that at the end of your trip you are walking away with something. Living in a cold climate, we are accustomed to getting the common cold so we know how easy it is to get infected.

As far as the vaccine, Zmapp is tobacco plant based but because it hasn't even gone to trials, all that there was in stock was the laboratory stock, which was given to the healthcare workers a few weeks back. On top of that, it takes months to make a new batch so it is not something that is being mass produced yet. I heard that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services was contracting other labs to begin producing more of the vaccine. Lets hope that red tape doesn't hinder progress.

BIG Sigh, I cant even express all the things going through my head about this right now regarding this (and all day today)!

Healing98 & GardenP--thats what worries me the most, quoting you guys: "how they're down playing the contagiousness of it" and how "it would be harder to control the spread here in the U.S because most of the people live and socialize in close proximity to others".

I mean anything a sick person touches and then we touch we can get it...bad odds!....and yes we are pretty over-populated compared to Africa so lots of contact here in the U.S..esp in cities!

It makes me think of movies they have made about a crazy virus getting out...and of course the cities were always the worst!

First of all, we should all believe what the CDC is saying. It's the CDC, it has to be the truth. Yeah right! They simply don't want mass panic.

I read that infected people can still spread ebola up to a week after their death.

I strongly believe the CDC is not being truthful. If this is only spread through bodily fluids. Then how did one of the healthcare workers get when he followed all the protocols?

Has anyone read "The Hot Zone"? Very interesting book. Ebola was in the USA back in the 1980s. It was, if I remember correctly, strain C. It was in a monkey house out side DC. It came from monkeys imported from Africa for experimental proposes.

so how did the camera man get it? He didn't touch anybody. Really makes you wonder. And why aren't they stopping people from coming here...because it would make the virus worse, like that makes any sense. god help us all!!
