so we have mostly now read that lyme can be sexually transmitted. I am not sure if it is equally spreadable form woman to man or more so from man to woman.
So what if a couple both have lyme. And one is treating and then they find out the other one has lyme too.
Will the one who has been treating have been getting reinfected every time they have sex with the person who unknowingly ha lyme?
Will the treated person et lyme again even when they are beter if the have sex with the lyme-ed person?

Could a person be treating and not getting better because their husband or wife has lyme and they keep getting it from them?

Once both partners are treated will the lyme not be transmittable by either one?

I don't think anyone knows. Although studies show the presence of the bacteria in sperm (50%) of men and secretions of women (100%), I don't think they have done studies to see if they can in fact infect a person that way..

My coworkers wife had lyme a few years ago, got treated and all was well. She relapsed and is currently getting treatment again. My coworker had been coming down with symptoms and went to another Dr. and tested positive for Lyme now. He took his three kids in, 2 out of 3 tested positive all through IGENEX. They don't know what to make of that.

My LLMD gave me a handout that stated that once your being treated its HIS opinion that you cannot spread it, but does think you can spread it without treatment. Seems to me that at the minimum it sounds like any possible transfer of blood or sexual secretions of an infected person can transfer it. If you were infected, received treatment, but a partner who is infected re-infected you, that's sounds possible. It would be like being bitten again. One vicious circle, unless you were still on MEDS at the time.

I have been on antibiotics for 6 months. I sometimes feel I am lots better and other days ( like today) feel generally sick and wonder if I am not better. Just found out my partner tested positive. Since I have been on meds this whole time, could he have reinfected me and kept me from getting well even on meds?

well it is crazy cause my husband just got a positive test. Such a bummer. He has been feeling run down but no symptom like mine so I urged him to have an igenex test just in case. We should have tested him months ago.
So the dr called that it is a low positive but still positive. So I am calling Monday to get him in as soon as I can with my llmd. We don't have the igene results, just the call from his doctor. We will get the igenex results this week and then when he sees my llmd he will get other tests.
My husand said aobut 3 years agohe found a tick on his leg but no rash and he thought it was one of those dog tics ( big) and thought that didn't give lyme. If he even mentioned it to me at the time I don't remember but neither of us were lyme literate then. He has been slowly getting worn down over the pat few yrs but we have little kid and he has a hard working job so we attributd it to that.
So either he got it from that tick or else he got it from me.
I wish we had tested him riht when I started treatment. Luckily my husband feels mostly fine, just tired and achy sometimes.

That's exactly how my husband feels! I urged him to test himself (he is a physician), but he is being stubborn about it!

While you are in effective treatment, you won't be reinfected. Although it's possible to have infected your hubby. It's possible from what I read, although not likely for the woman to pass it on to the man. And although it's more likely for the man to be able to pass it on to the woman, it's still not something that happens all the time. I've been married to a wonderful man for over 14 yrs now, and he's not shown any signs of Lyme disease or any of the other infections- and neither has my first husband and that was over 30 yrs ago.

So while people should protect themselves as if protecting from any other STD (I wouldn't wish this even on my ex!!), it's not something that happens all the time, it's only a possibility at this point in time - but research is still on going.

well luckily my very busy llmd happened to have a cancellation for THIS week. Thanks goodness. My llmd's first appointments are SO expensive- husband is  telling me he will just go to a local llnd. But I know those llnd's and they are not that good- they are where I went when I first got bit and I didn't feel adequately treated. So we are going to put up the lots of money it will take to see the good llmd. But at the same time, despite the frustration of the money, I feel very glad that my husband is going to see the good llmd this week and will get more clarity and also started on treatment.

I came down with Lyme about 16 yrs ago, hit me like a flu, then never really came out of it. Then my husband started having issues about 7-8 yrs ago, he got tested and has it also. His positive was more than mine, but not CDC positive. We have same bands positive, I would say I gave to him but what if he gave to me but at the time his immune system had his under control.

I definitely think it's sexually transmitted.

I think what happens, is yes it is passed on sexually. But some people who get it sexually have the lower germ load and therefore don't get many symptoms. Also their immune system is healthy and keeps it in check.

Traveler - has your husband ever been tested? It would be interesting how his test result would come back.

So just because there are no symptoms, doesn't mean it hasn't been transmitted.

Good link, Utahgal, except that we have surpassed AIDS numbers now, so I'm not sure how much of that information may be outdated - but they do cover some basics that are important.

No, LP, my hubby hasn't been tested and likely won't - he sees it as unnecessary spending since he shows no signs or symptoms. he has his own medical issues going on. He has a little known about condition called Factor V (five, as in the number) that almost killed him and he lives with a lot of pain and disability due to it. I've explained that it could have started with a tick-borne infection, but he has never shown symptoms and has 'enough to deal with' - in his words. He has promised me though, that if he ever shows symptoms that I am truly worried about, he will get tested and/or start treatments.

But I agree with you - it would be interesting!
