Is doxy best used for a new infection rather than for a old one?

Started doxy about a month ago, when I was diagnosed with Lyme. I've been sick for over 8 years. I was told that doxy works well for a new infection and not so good for an chronic/old infection, I'm so confused, my first appt with a LLND isn't for a month, and am hoping to start some kind of treatment before that. My MD and ND aren't Lyme literate, so like many people with Lyme say, I/we have to be our own advocates.

Actually truth is even for new infections it might not clear if completely. Some people simply have a strong immune system that takes care of the germs and the doxy helps inhibit them. There are people that got new infections, treated immediately with doxy like a few days later, and then the infection is gone for 2 years and they think it is done... Only to have severe symptoms that start 2 years later.

What ILADs doctors are finding nowadays is a cyst buster is needed in the case of using abx for lyme.

Carolina, you are not really wasting your time with doxy. It does work, it will also help reduce symptoms. Just it by itself is usually not enough for these infections. There are people that combined doxycycline and tinidazole that were able to clear these infections. So maybe just consider asking if you could add something else in with the doxy.

You need drugs or herbs that will kill all 3 forms, spirochete, bio film and cyst for Lyme and then if you have co-infections then whatever will kill them.
