Lump in throat and belching

I posted about this once before but I have a hard time figuring out how to find old posts.

My LLMD doesn't think I have an active infection anymore. I was treated for Lyme/Bart/Babs combo with abx for almost two years.

Lately I've had the feeling that I have something stuck in my throat. I also belch a LOT. I went to an ENT who said it's acid reflux in the throat and he prescribed Dexilant, which seems to help, but my naturalist freaked when she found out I was taking it. She said it will tear up my stomach and my entire digestive system will be wrecked if I continue to take it.

Does anyone else have theses symptoms? I'm still (and probably always will be) suspicious of it being related to Lyme & Co. There wasn't a definitive test to rule it out, although the last bloodtest through labcorp was negative for all 3. Those tests are so unreliable.

The Naturalist also said reflux 99% of the time is from LOW stomach acid, not high. She suggested taking digestive enzymes and probiotics.

Any related stories with advice to relieve the symptoms would be greatly appreciated. I ate salad this afternoon and feel like a piece of lettuce is stuck in my throat! :(

Yes I've had those problems, some times I just flat out couldn't swallow or others it seemed like something was in there.

I also belch a lot but always did. Not sure why.

Back about 10 yrs ago I was put on an acid reducer and it seemed to help but then out of no where I quit and never got the acid reflex symptoms. I think Lyme must have done it.

I have this problem, been dealing with it a while. My Ear, Nose, Throat Dr. treated me with meds for a severe sinus infection but the lump feeling is still there. Last week he went into my nose and down my throat with a little scope/camera thing in his office, he saw nothing there except mucus and a little red.

He said he is convinced it's from acid reflux. He had them draw blood last week just to check for any allergies, I get the results this coming Thursday but I doubt it's allergies. I do suffer from acid reflux, it never effected my throat before but it's pretty common from the research I've done and talking to some people at the Drug store.

I have tried ALL the natural type treatments for acid reflux and I suffered a great deal. I was told it could be low acid so I tried all the things I was advised to take. After about a month of not taking my Prilosec I started taking it again because it got so bad, I couldn't eat, even with no food I was miserable. I couldn't sleep.....about that time I had a sore throat then the lump sensation.

If it's not controlled, acid reflux or GERD can result in serious problems, including esophagitis, esophageal bleeding and ulcers, Barrett's esophagus, strictures, and an increased risk of esophageal cancer.

I have tried EVERY drug known to man and the ONLY thing that helps me is Prilosec, I am now told I must take it twice a day. which I just started doing. I don't like this drug but it beats the alternative. Like I said I have tried everything, nothing else works, you can't mess around with this.

I wanted to add this.
I take digestive enzymes each day, it hasn't helped with the acid reflux but I need it and I take VSL#3 Probiotic's 112.5 billion per capsule and I take 4 per day for my IBS. Since going back on my Prilosec I haven't had any pain/heartburn or feeling like acid is coming up but maybe it does at night....I don't know so I'll keep taking 2 per day to see if it helps.

Yes, and I've had a lot of trouble swallowing over the years.

It was particularly bad when I had cysts in my thyroid, so you need to get a ct scan of your thyroid done. I ended up having a complete thyroidectomy, bc the cysts created thyroid hormone, so I was hyperthyroid.

Your ND might be right about the proton pump inhibitors.

I would try treating yourself for a sinus infection or nasal discharge first (you can use a saline nasal rinse or neti pot--add three drops of goldenseal to each cup of the saline solution). Then, I would start taking digestive enzymes before each meal, take digestive bitters, and 1/2 tsp. apple cider vinegar, also bf each meal. These combined things will help with reflux (which is exacerbated by post nasal drip), and hopefully the lump.

I still have trouble swallowing, but no longer have the sensation of a lump.

Have you had thyroid testing done?

I would get tested again.

Also, do the stuff other folks suggest, and try the digestive bitters, but only a little bit to start.

Hi there! I suffer from both of these symptoms (the belching and sensation of something in my throat).

For me personally, it is NOT related to acid reflux. I've never had reflux and have had many tests done as well.

Actually, excessive belching was one of my earliest symptoms and signs that something was wrong. Just tested positive for lyme a few months ago.

My llmd says he has seen this symptom before. I've also talked to several other people who have it...even though it doesn't seem to be super common.
