Vision problems

The symptom that brought my attention to the fact that I may have lyme disease was my vision--otherwise I would have believed the doctors that I was depressed and anxious. At first I thought it was a distortion, but the more I research I think it's dyslexia. And I think it's been getting worse over the last few days, when I started taking the doxy...I would like to hear from anyone who had vision issues from lyme disease. I've heard of people who've gone blind, but that could be hype, I have no idea. This has been a great forum to get knowledge and comfort for me. Thanks for being here

I think having vision problems is one of the worst things to go through. It affects your whole life. My eye problem began this past summer...it would turn off and on...now it won't go back normal. My left eye won't cooperate with the right. It's actually called binocular diplopia (double vision). I'm hoping that the three antibiotics I'm on will help. I think I'm going to go to an Opthemologist, too. If all else fails, I'll try whatever crazy treatments I can find! Never give up!

Dragonfly....I saw your post after I posted and was going to post on your post and saw you posted on mine. If that sentence doesn't mess with your vision....anyway, I wanted to tell you I've been to the ophthalmologist and had an MRI, both showing nothing. I hope your meds kick in and you get some relief soon.

I get floaters too, but my main vision problem is that I often have a blurry spot in my right eye.

I can't imagine anyone feeling comfortable with the ways Lyme can manifest in our vision.

I had a bunch of what I learned were ocular migraines (without the headache) in the early days of being on amoxicillin.

The first one I had happened when I was on the computer - pieces of letters went missing. Another time, I had wavy lines of light "moving" from one eye to the other. I was thinking vitreous gel detachment in both cases.

One of them lasted about 15 minutes and there was no way I could do anything. I started seeing rings of light on a illuminated background that moved from one eye to the other, up and down and every way around. It was like being at a laser light show lol I still had the issue when I closed my eyes so I knew it was my brain (joy :)

Of course I went to see my ophthalmologist who dx'd the ocular migraines.

I've had the shadows in my periphery and times when I had so much eye pain/pressure that I thought my eyeballs were going to explode.

Thank goodness no more ocular migraines since that week I had them several times.

Having Lyme is one weird experience.

Seems difficult to tie vision issues with Lyme. My vision stared getting blury before I knew I had lyme, but it was also in my early forties which is when many people start needing glasses (normal).

What was not normal was waking one day to 80% darkness (about 80% blind in both eyes). It lasted less than a day. I was freaked to say the least. Daytime was like night time, you can see in the dark, to some extent, thats what it was like.

An eye Dr said for that to happen both optical nerves were most likely malfunctioning at the joining point, since it was the same in BOTH eyes - that was the Dr's best guess. Bacteria in the nerve for a brief period? Mystery. After my vision came back, I needed glasses and then new glasses every year.

I now have watery eyes (makes them slightly blury) after starting up ABX again. Dr thought is was fall eye allergies, But I've never had eye allergies before in my life. Coincidence or not? - I wonder.

I know of someone who remained permanently blind from Lyme in one eye.
