my son is now 4, and he started his lyme symptoms last fall, diagnosed in the winter finally and started treatment in early Feb.
He was on antibiotics for 14 weeks and they did get him to a place of I'd say about
95% symptom free, give or take.
I'm glad for the antibiotics in that they did beat down the infection in him and I think his immune system could fight it better then too, but for him the antibiotics contributed to some yeast problems that sometimes I wonder if are still in the mix.
He feels good now; basically only has some occasional joint, leg and foot pain (maybe 1 day a week lately) and this is so, so much improvement from where he was last year and how it escalated last winter.
We switched him to herbs recently after a break from antibiotics. I'm glad to be doing herbs with him, but here's what I've learned in hindsight. Just my two cents, for what it's worth:
1. the herbs can really find and get the lyme. He's herxed more on herbs than he ever did on antibiotics. Everyone is different, but I do hear from other's that herbs were powerful for them too. They can be very effective I believe.
We started slowly with the dose, but as it increased it was hard on him; again everyone is different, but one common theme is that herbs can really get lyme, so go slow.
I'm not saying don't do the herbs, b/c I think they are effective and a good choice (that's why he's on them).
2. and also, make sure to keep up with the probiotics and detoxing while on herbals. Maybe you know this already. I learned this the hard way. My son has had some herxing these days, that I don't would have happened if I hadn't slacked on the probiotics a bit for several weeks (would miss days in a row) and had been keeping up with detoxing regimen. He was feeling so good, and the herbs weren't causing herxes at first, so I let those guards down. Wouldn't again.
I guess that's it.
We use Beyond Balance too (like Calilyme). I like that Dr. Ann Corson (one of the top lyme pediatrician's in the US) likes/uses these products (so I read) and that they have a good track record from stories I've heard. They are powerful. They are a mix of different herbs in each product. If my son herxes on them again badly, even while starting slowy, I may change to Buhner's protocol to see if it makes a difference.
Building the immune system, detoxing, and getting the lyme. Don't so many good lyme doctors put those things in that order even.
I hope your children, whole family, can be feeling well soon!
