New to the site. I was bitten by a tick. Went to hospital and given 200 mg doxycycline. Buy I don't know how long it was on me as up high on very back of thigh. It was identified as fully engorged deer female tick. Now I am experiencing pIn on my legs. My dr thinks it's nothing. I'd like to see an infectious disease specialist but can't get referral. What to do? Thanks, moosiey

I would suggest seeing an LLMD (Lyme Literate MD) as apposed to an infectious disease specialist. I did not need a referral for mine, but I don't know about anyone else. They are better trained for Lyme disease and can make sure you don't have any co-infections. They are also better at deciding how long your treatment should be and if you need a combination of antibiotics or just one, etc. If you want to find an LLMD just start a thread with the topic: looking for in LLMD near _____. Hi Moosiey, Welcome to the forum! It's good you found us. Do have a look at the "New to Lyme?".." thread at the top of the forum.

Please don't listen to your doctor -- it is something!! Too many people are suffering because they didn't get effective and thorough treatment.

I second twinmkm's suggestion to find a LLMD.

Thank you achievingrace and twinmkm for responding. I will checkout that thread about new to lyme and post a thread asking if anyone knows lyme specialists in my area. The ones I googled dull require dr. referral. My dr. Doesn't think I have anything wrong as I never got the rash. But I want to make sure as my legs are bothering me quite a bit. Thank you both.

You have been given some very good information!
Less than 1/2 of confirmed Lyme diagnoses have a bulls eye as well - even less when you consider all those that the doc's missed!

Well it has been a while since I have written. I did get into see Dr. J. done in Hermitage PA and I am on an antibiotic. The first week of the antibiotic was difficult and I really did not feel well at all. This week I think I'm doing better with that but I am feeling somewhat depressed because it seems like I should show improvement with my symptoms and I'm not. Was trying to figure out the stages of Lyme disease and I figured it was in weeks. Then I decided I was wrong. Even though I had it probably 8 to 10 weeks before getting on the antibiotic I was already experiencing pain in my legs and burning in my arms. So that now is telling me I was already in later stage lyme, which to me is pretty scary. Also the two tests that Dr. J. ran the allies and the Western blot both came back negative so he is treating me on symptoms alone. I talked to my pharmacist about this because friend say will maybe it's something else and while I suppose it could be, being a logical person as I like to think I am, it seems funny that I was fine until about 11 days after the tick bite when all this started. My pharmacist agrees. So that is where I'm at. Trying hard to stay positive. Thanks to those who have written and given me support. I really appreciate it because I feel quite alone. Diane

I'm sorry, Moosiey, but we can't post Dr's names on the forum, so I had to edit that part of your post.

You have to begin this for the long haul. Even the most recent infections require at least 6 - 8 weeks of treatment, and that's for those with very might or symptoms.

Start detoxing with the suggestions listed in the New to Lyme thread slowly. Ask us all the questions you need to help you get through this! You're not alone, we're here with you!
