Antibiotic shots??

What are your thoughts about getting antibiotic shots? My LLND is pushing me to try this because I'm not improving. It would require my husband or me to give myself shots 3 to 4 times a week. I really don't care for needles. Like anyone does. I don't think I could give myself a shot and my husband travels for work. But I want to get better!

From my own experience, I wish that I had started them earlier. I had very good results with them.

(One thing- the needles that came packaged with the injections were quite thick. My doctor switched those with thinner ones. Much better.)

I'm currently doing Bicillin shots, however I get them done at my doctor's office. I wouldn't be able to give them to myself, I have a thing about needles too.

Like anything, practice helps. I had a really hard time giving my animals shots until I had done it a few times. At least you are more likely to hold still for them!

Do you have any friends or neighbors who are nurses, or who are inclined that way? Perhaps they would be willing to get you started.

You can practice on an orange a few times too with a needle and water - to give you a 'feel' for it. I had to give myself B-12 injections for several months, and while I didn't like doing it, once I did it a few times I realized that it wasn't so bad since it was to help me heal.

Talk it over with your doctor more, asking lots of questions. Get the smallest gauge needle your doc says will work - and remember why you are doing this - to regain your life again!!

I can give shots. I've given shots to horses, dogs and a human. I just don't think I could do it to myself. shakehead

I don't want my husband to give me a shot if he's angry with me. shocked

LOL Agreed, Mom of 2!! No one gets to give me shots when they are mad at me!!!

Funny thing- I grew up giving shots to critters - dogs, horses, goats and more, and of course, once in a while there was a bit of a tussle and I got stuck by the needle - but never actually injected myself with the stuff in the syringe. But when it came time to give myself B-12 injections, each time my brain realized that there was a needle heading my way, it started screaming "STOP! WAIT!" and I had to learn to override that in order to quit hesitating and making the shot worse!! LOL!

I had a colt that would try to bite me every time he needed a shot. That was fun. Not!

You hit the nail on the head Traveler! It's the thought that I will be causing pain to MYSELF. No one wants to intentionally hurt themselves. It goes against all your instincts.

I've been bit by a horse a time or two and while it was far from nice, I think pigs were the hardest to give shots too for me - the adults, not the babies. Due to their tough skin, you have to stick them in just the right place - and avoid being bit!! LOL!

Did you grow up on a farm? I can't imagine trying to give a pig a shot. Their hide is so thick!

I grew up with horses, but not on a farm. I did however have a small working farm while raising my kids. There are key spots where a pig's skin is softer and more pliable for giving shots, but it's still not easy!! LOL!

What breed of horses did you have? I've had 1/4 horses most of my life.

Well, while I owned a P.O.A. and took him to the Internationals once - even made it to the final cut!! - I worked with all types of horses, from Quarter horses to Tennessee Walkers. From ground training to in the show ring. I even had a chance to work for someone who showed his horses all over the world (even had a special airplane modified for the horses to travel), then Lyme struck hard and I had to back out of it all - I had knee surgery and it didn't help of course, so I lost all of that thanks to Lyme. It was a very promising career until then....

O-M-G!! Traveler, you are my idol!! I'm so sorry lyme has caused you to give up so much. Thinking about how much you gave up, makes my eyes well up.

I don't have any thing nearly as interesting or cool as you. I've had horses for 30 some odd years. I did a little showing when I was a teenager. The biggest thing I ever did was, I won Grand and Reserve with my colt in the State Fair. It was only a conformation class, he was only 16 months old.

Later I didn't care for showing any longer. I just wanted to enjoy trail riding. I love being in the middle of the woods with my horse. (except when I get lost)

LOL! yes, getting lost on horse back brings a new awareness of the word "lost"!!! LOL!!!

I did a lot of showing and parades and that when I was growing up - not so much as an older teen and adult, other than the Int'l P.O.A. show - that was one I just couldn't pass up when I had worked my way up to it. Lots of good times.

Grand and Reserve is pretty impressive!!! Horses have always been the love of my life - but since being so sick I have owned one in a very, very long time.

We all have lost parts of our life to these infections - whether it's a large chunk or smaller parts, we all suffer. That's why I'm here. I don't want anyone going through this any longer than necessary. I have chosen to pretty much dedicate my life to finding ways to help educate people and help them find ways to heal. I hope to start up a information/support group once I finally heal - and of course continue on here. :-)

They were the love of my life as well. The horses always kept me out of trouble growing up.

These days with kids I don't have the time to truly dedicate to them. When our last horse foundered and eventually had to be put down, that was it for me. It was a devastating experience for me and I never ever want experience it again.

My husband and took the kids to a dude ranch for vacation a couple of summers ago. First thing I did was bury my nose in the horse's fur. I miss that smell so much. My husband and kids looked at me like I was mad. LOL

I do the same thing of burying my nose in their fur!! It's such a warm and welcoming smell to me!!

Although, any time I get around horses now, hubby just makes me promise to not go roll in their poop!! LOL!!!
