Do you treat babesia and candida at the same time?

I have lyme, babesia, and candida. I have spoken to one doctor who wants to treat all three at the same time, and 2 others who want to treat babesia and candida separately. What is your experience in treatment of these diseases simultaneously?

Now, I am taking Azithromycin, Mepron, and nystatin. Earlier, I was taking biaxin with Mepron for 2 months. I had severe shortness of breath and heart palpitation. After switching to Azithromycin, my symptoms improved for a week, but now they are getting worse again. I have systemic candida. Do you think that by not treating candida, it keeps my symptoms from improving?

Does someone use protocols to treat everything at the same time, as one doctor suggests?

I would appreciate any input you can provide.

Yes, you can treat them all at once. I didn't feel better until I got candida under control. You will probably need to take something stronger than nystatin to treat systemic candida. Good Luck and keep us posted.

I agree with POH. Have you eliminated all sugar and carbs from your diet? That will help too.

Some people find the need to get yeast under control before attacking the other infections. I guess it all depends on how bad the yeast issue is.

Nystatin only addresses yeast in the gut. Duflucan is a systemic anti-fungal.

I agree with the advice about eliminating all sugar (much is in processed foods which we don't need) and carbs (which the body metabolizes like sugar with even worse implications).

Grapefruit seed extract can also help with yeast....

I would say definitely treat the candida first - and then whatever else you can handle which will depend on how involved the candida is. The abx that you will be taking for the Lyme and Babesia will make the Candida much worse if it's not treated from the beginning.

If you can tolerate treating Lyme and Babesia on top of that, then go for it - otherwise, you will have to try to figure out what infection you have the highest bacterial load for (by symptoms usually) and treat that first.

Thank you very much for your input. Before starting candida treatment, my 3-day stool test showed moderate to many yeast present. My blood test shows antibodies to candida. I do not eat processed foods and trying to eat gluten, dairy, and sugar free.

The doctor who started treating babesia wants to finish that treatment before treating candida, and he prescribed only nystatin for now. It has now been 3 months that I have been on Mepron to treat babesia. He said in a month, we will start treating candida with diflucan, along with lyme.
When I started babesia treatment, I was on Zithromax and Mepron. Then we switched Zithromax to Biaxin, which I took for 2 months. During the second month of Biaxin, my symptoms (shortness of breath and heart palpitations) got worse. I asked him to switch me to something else, but he refused.

The other doctor who wants to treat everything at the same time uses the following protocol:
Doxycycline 100 mg twice a day
Zithromax 500 mg 1 a day
Malaron 250 mg - 100 mg 3 times a day
Diflucan 100 mg 1 a day
Clotrimazole 10 mg mouth/throat 3 times a day

Just switching from Biaxin to Zithromax reduced my symptoms.

What is your opinion about this protocol? Is it too strong? I am very confused.

Well, what I know is that trying to ignore a candida infection is dangerous. That alone would make the decision as to which protocol I would choose.

And when you start on new abx, always be sure to start only one abx at a time and on a lower than prescribed dose and build up to the dose your doc says they want you on, all the while detoxing a lot!!
