Utah-
I was bitten by a tick spring/summer 2013. For about a year, I had no glaringly obvious symptoms. I had some edema in my lower legs and right foot, night sweats for a few months (I thought this was hormonal) and no matter how many times a day I worked out and how few calories I ate, I could not lose the last 15 lbs I wanted to lose. In hindsight, I think one of two things was going on...1, Either my immune system was fighting the good fight and holding down the fort enough that I didn't realize how serious the situation was or 2, Lyme and co were evading my immune system hiding out somewhere.
By May of 2014 the wheels started coming off. Debilitating fatigue, agitation, brain fog, weird rashes that lasted for weeks, mysterious joint pain. By November, I started developing food allergies. December I finally got a diagnosis. Either my immune system was becoming overwhelmed by this point, or lyme and co was no longer hiding out and the immune system was finally aware there were invaders.
I stated Doxy by mid-Dec. Herxing was horrible but I was also without thyroid support. By New Years I had strep throat and got on 10 days of amoxy. This is also when I got serious about detoxing. Then back on Doxy, herxing was very minimal but I had also started thyroid glandular. And then the UTI hit. 3 days of Cipro, herxed pretty good on this stuff! During all of this time, I also started Buhner's protocol for Babs and lyme, started some anti-parasitic herbs, in addition to other supplements and vitamins. After I was done with Cipro, I started Monolaurin and biofibrin along with the remainder of the Doxy. Herxed mildly for about 3 days. And here I sit today, about 7 weeks from when I first started treatments.
I am to the point now where I can herx mildly to something new that is introduced to my regimen. But soon thereafter, I am feeling about 70% of my old self. I have motivation to get things done that I have put off for months, I have enough energy that I don't need a nap even if I didn't get quality sleep the night before. I have integrated walking to my exercise routine, but I am considering trying some harder workouts, albeit going slow.
I don't know that I am really doing anything any differently than others on this forum, but I have found some things that worked for me, at least for the time being. I am curious to see how I handle new abx that I should be starting soon. If I get a good herx that lasts a while, then I will know that previous regimens had limited effectiveness.
IHL-
about 7 weeks until I began to feel noticeable improvement. Thyroid supplementation has HUGE for me. I tried backing off this once I started treatment and that was a big mistake. I had very dark depression set in, and my body felt like I had been hit by a truck day in and day out. Also, I could sleep long hours in addition to naps and still felt exhausted.
I also think the anti-parasitic herbs gave me a little edge on helping to detox. It was like I had to address those before my detoxing pathways could really be effective on clearing out the lyme and co die-off.
